TO CLARIFY.....THIS REVIEW IS ABOUT ALLIED VAN LINES....NOT GRAND STRAND MOVING......the worst moving experience we've ever had - bar none - dishes broken (we even took out the insurance and they still refused to pay for them) boxes crushed that were marked FRAGILE - first they sent a UHAUL instead of an Allied truck - the main driver never showed up (we were told we were getting their best - WRONG) then after they packed that truck they moved the belongings to an Allied truck and was sent to Atlanta, GA, after that they moved it back onto a UHAUL and delivered to SC - still no main driver in sight...we were hustled with the unloading as the movers had to get over to another location and help unload an ALLIED truck??? when I questioned the mover about boxes that appeared to be missing he said I was imagining that - all boxes were unloaded - later on I discovered that I was right - we had 19 missing boxes - ALLIED paid us $30 for the damaged/broken items which included several Spode dishes, electric candles and many other items which are missing - never ever use this company - what a rip - we learned a valuable lesson - regardless of what the movers are telling you - make sure that ALL boxes are accounted for...we are elderly and feel that we were definitely taken advantage of....

By far the worst moving experience I've ever had with any company. To start from the very beginning, I called and scheduled the GM to come out and give me a quote on my move from Myrtle Beach. The GM arrived 30 minutes before our appointment and spent less than 5 minutes inside. He didn't bother properly inventory all the items I had to move and added packaging items to the move that were never used. Fast forward to moving day, the moving team was scheduled to arrive between 8:00am and 9:30am. The team didn't show up until 10:30am. Now, the tardiness didn't bother me, as much as, the fact that the 26ft truck was already 1/3 full of someone else's belongings. I knew from experience that my house was going to take every foot of that 26 foot box truck. Nevertheless, the moving team lead assured me that all of my stuff would fit. However, we quickly found out that this wasn't true. I was informed towards the end of the day that they would have to call another truck to get the rest of my stuff. The only caveat is that the truck would arrive 3 days after the first truck. I called the office to get clarification and they explained to me that due to Hurricane Matthew, other people's moves had to be shifted around in order to accommodate all the other customers. I understand that life happens and I agreed to have the second truck come pick up the rest of my belongings. However, I wasn't prepared for the movers to start smoking marijuana outside my house as they were finishing packing up my first truck. I was appalled and just wanted them to deliver my items safely, so I didn't say anything as it happened. That was my fault. The next day the movers were supposed to arrive at my new residence in Charlotte at 10:00am. The moving team didn't arrive until 12:30pm. As they arrived they seemed angry and smelled strongly of Marijuana. Again, I said nothing because we had a long day of moving in ahead of us and I didn't want there to be any hostility. Upon unloading my items, there were close to $1000 in damages to my items. I understand things break during moving, but a box marked "fragile" should not be on the bottom of a large stack of boxes. All of this could have been forgiven and worked out peacefully, had the GM been willing to call me back or speak to me over the phone directly. Rather, I had to speak with the front office ladies and play telephone tag in order to get anything done. This is extremely unprofessional and is not how business should be done. After all is said and done, I was able to recoup $350 from the moving company for the damages to my belongings. This is fine considering I had a $500 deductible with the company provided moving insurance. What was unacceptable is the fact that the GM proceeded to tell me that I got the "cheapest move in fu*king history" as he yelled at me through the phone when I was speaking to his receptionist. The only redeeming quality of this company is the front office staff minus the General Manager. I have moved several times and have never experienced the level of disrespect and unprofessionalism as I have from Grand Strand Moving and Storage. If you want a poorly coordinated move with unreliable movers, you've found your company.
