We have scheduled move for Saturday Apr 25, 2020. We confirmed our contract with Montclair Movers. Day before move we contacted them again and spoke with Ilya (guy with Russian background) to finalize all details for the move next day at 10am. He confirmed our move for Saturday. Next day nobody showed up at all. We were waiting since 10:30 am till 15:00pm. It's not reliable company. They create a huge problem with our move. I am surprised who who wrote good reviews. Might be Ilya's Russian friends wrote these good reviews. That's my honest story with Montclair Movers.
Very Unpleasant Experience: While the initial contact/scheduling was professional and pleasant, the actual moving day/ workers were not. 3 men were sent, 1 hung out in the truck, barely helped. They threw my boxes into the new home with no care. Placed boxes upside down, ignored the FRAGILE labels, etc. They broke a huge chunk of wood off a very expensive dresser AND an antique chair. Also, found significant scratches on the furniture. They broke a side table, had to throw it out! One of the movers stood over me while I reviewed the invoice, insisting I pay a "good" tip - making me very uncomfortable. Also, he insisted on me writing my cc # down on a generic invoice, even though the office is supposed to handle payments/ transactions. I then received a call from a random person asking me to confirm my CC #. It was a horrible experience. The owner never followed up with me after calling with my concerns. The actual movers are unprofessional, and potential scammers. I do not recommend Montclair Moving co.
Montclair Movers gave me great service for an unbeatable price. I will recommend them to all my friends and family.
I want to relate an exceptionally TERRIBLE experience with Montclair Movers. Roughly a month ago, I contracted with them to do a move between two houses in Livingston. They sent half the capacity (3 men 1 truck instead of 6 men 2 trucks), took TWICE AS LONG, caused IMMENSE DAMAGE, took my Grand Piano away and kept it for 2 days, lost or stole a black duffel bag with valuable items. Eventually, the move cost me more than what was quoted in the contract, but the damages cost me even more, but the aggravation was the worst. You might think that this is par for the course for a typical move. But wait there is more! The sales rep who quoted and contracted me and the moving scheduler abused each other and also abused me using ethnic terms. After the move was complete, the sales rep apologized profusely but did nothing to settle the damages after promising to me for several weeks that they will be looked at. Now the sales rep tells me that the firm has gone BANKRUPT and that he is with a different firm. I DO NOT wish this extremely harrowing experience on even my worst enemies. I took and provided the firm with pictures of the damages I took contemporaneously, but nothing changed. I am going ahead and filing a claim in the legal system But before then, I want to WARN everyone to NOT DO ANY BUSINESS with Montclair Movers unless you are suicidal. I have text message evidence of their personnel abusing each other and accusing them of FRAUD and performing the move WITHOUT INSURANCE. Please contact me BEFORE you contemplate doing ANY business with Montclair Movers or their business owners. There was a similar post from a West Orange customer on YELP a few weeks ago, but that seems to have disappeared now. So, this level of poor service is the norm and not the exception for this firm.
I have moved 3 times in the past 3 years (all from and to a 1-bedroom apartment) and Montclair Movers were simply great! To be honest, I was dreading moving day because of my experience in the past but these guys made this moving day completely painless. I have no complaints at all and I couldn't thank them enough for making this such a smooth move. To start off, they arrived a few minutes early and moved very quickly to load up the truck. Within the first 15 mins, all 30 boxes/totes were loaded onto the truck and they had shifted their attention to properly wrapping up my furniture with plastic wrap, tape, and blankets. They worked efficiently, splitting up to wrap the furniture and disassemble my bed. They even made sure to pay great attention to my faux leather couches and didn't use tape directly on these couches. They worked quickly, were considerate/respectful, and the entire move (including disassembling and reassembling my bed in my new apartment) took about 3.5 hours. I am very satisfied with my experience and their work, especially when my parents weren't able to come help out for this move.
