Lived in JP for over a decade and wanted to go local so went with these guys for our move. Movers worked hard and were courteous but when they unpacked stuff into our new house there were scratches and tears on many items. Owners promised to send someone to repair damage and after many emails they just stopped communicating with us. Avoid!!!

They were very responsible, fast, and kind people to work with. Easy to schedule and very reasonable rates. One ding in a doorframe from a couch, but otherwise amazing moving and they reimbursed me for it within two weeks!

What a relief. Excellent customer service. From the first email to the truck pulling away from our new home. The office staff was knowledgeable of what we needed, to make the move happen. The crew was professional, energetic, friendly, and just a pleasure to work with. They made a very stressful time in our life a fun experience. I will recommend Pony Express to anyone looking for a mover. Thank you Pony!

Review:

I chose Pony Express on the basis of strong reviews from neighbors - I should have also checked reviews here, as the negative ones pretty much describe the same disappointingly unprofessional experience I ended up having. This was a relatively small move (a 450 square foot apartment) where my partner and I had packed everything, and moved all the delicate, awkward things ourselves - the movers had to handle a mattress, sofa, a couple of dressers and shelves, maybe 12-15 boxes, and a sofa. The company sent two movers who seemed to be really overwhelmed by the physical effort of the job, and moved really slowly (this is compared to when other two-person crews have moved my things). I started to get really concerned when they couldn't figure out how to get the drawers out of my dresser - shouldn't experienced movers know how to do that...? The bigger problem - they just didn't seem to know how to *move* furniture. Boston architecture is difficult - so that's why we hire experts to navigate awkward things into elderly buildings. At a certain point the guy in charge (who was just rude and bullying toward his poor partner) declared that the dresser was stuck - until we suggested a couple of little shifts and the thing moved just fine. Same problem with the rest of the furniture - so it all ended up scratched and the walls of the stairwell badly gouged. Then my sofa wouldn't fit. We'd measured carefully in advance but it just wouldn't go. A stupid but completely typical problem in this city - stuff doesn't fit. What should have happened: the moving company, knowing that non-experts aren't always the best judges of what will fit, should have let me know that hoisting was an option as part of the process of booking (I didn't even know that was a service they offered until a week after the actual move). When the sofa obviously wouldn't fit, the mover should have taken it in stride and said, "let me call my boss and we'll figure out a solution for you." What actually happened: the one mover refused to even try to get the couch into the building - I'm not sure where he thought it should go instead, especially in the rain. My partner and the other mover managed to get it at as far as the second floor landing. The other mover, meanwhile, went and sulked in the truck while my partner and the second mover finished bringing in the boxes. Then the mover declared that they were over time and demanded payment. When we said that we weren't comfortable paying the full amount for a job we'd had to do partly by ourselves, the mover got belligerent, and threatened to call the police. We called the office but no-one got back to us, so we paid, just to get rid of this one horrible guy. I wrote the company to explain what had happened. No response. No offer to discuss, no suggestion of other strategies for my couch, no offer of apology or discount. Meanwhile, the couch couldn't stay on the landing - my new landlord insisted (rightly - it was a fire code violation) that we had to move it. So with no better options, we moved it ourselves...and I pulled something in my neck and have been in significant pain for the last several days as a result. I can't hold the movers liable for that injury, but I totally blame them anyway: the whole point of *paying experts* is so that the amateurs don't damage the furniture or injure themselves, and that's exactly what happened. This move didn't have to go this way: again, an experienced, professional crew could have handled this move capably and courteously. Instead, what I got for my money was a partial move, damaged furniture and walls, and the stress of moving was made unnecessarily worse than it should have been. I still haven't heard from the company, two weeks after the move, which is why I'm now doing the passive-aggressive thing of leaving this negative review.

I had to do a last minute move last month and these guys were great! They were able to get me an appointment window the next day, arrived on time with plenty of warning, and got my move done faster (and for less money) than expected! I will recommend and use them again in a heartbeat. The only thing to watch out for is that I initially called and left a voicemail because they were closed and never received a call back. Once I called back during business hours it only took 10 minutes to set everything up and the actual move was such a breeze so I’ll still give them five stars. I guess just a word of advice to consumers to make sure you get someone on the phone because voicemails can sometimes get lost.
