I recently hired Ramsey’s for a move, the short version is: I would not recommend them. “Good” customer service means nothing when there are no issues, real customer service is about how well a business deals with a problem when they occur. It is here that Ramsey’s failed, even after given the opportunity to succeed. Initially everything was wonderful, the owner came by to inspect all the items to be moved and provide a much more accurate quote. The quote came out to $1575 using 4 men for 6.5 hours, materials, $60 of mattress bags, and an hour of drive time. While large items were our primary concern the only things that we were not having them move in the quote were some small décor items, and things they were not allowed to: propane, etc. Before hiring them, we asked about any discount that might be able to be applied, it never hurts to ask! They said the best they could offer was 3% on the labor, but they normally over quote jobs and would probably be done quicker. The quote included mattresses, 60+ boxes, several shelving units, a Christmas tree, and many other items which in the end were NOT moved by Ramsey’s. We rented a 6x12 trailer and moved over 3 FULL loads ourselves before Ramsey’s. WE moved 90% of the boxes, we moved the mattresses, the Christmas tree, and so many other things. Our thought was that we needed help moving big items, and if we moved over several smaller “last minute” items that always take up a lot of time during a move, then we could save a fair amount of money and make the move very quick and easy. Unfortunately, this was not the case. It started off well, they arrived a bit over a half hour early. However, 5 men showed up, this was a change to the job that was not communicated to us. One was clearly the supervisor so I wrongly assumed that there were 4 workers (that came with the job) plus 1 supervisor. I didn’t assume that Ramsey’s changed my bid to charge me more money (186 vs 224/hr). The pay clock started, but the work was slow and poorly organized. When hiring a moving company like this with good reviews I expected careful, motivated, hard-working guys. Instead only 2 out of 5 of the guys were truly this, 1 was alright, and the other two were taking breaks or on their phone for a large part of the time. Time I ended up paying for. To further explain how easy this move was for them. When we got to the unloading half of the job 80% of the truck was simply unloaded into the garage. We moved most items into the home ourselves. We did this because the carpets were just cleaned the day before and the movers were messy at the home we left. We didn’t want to deal with making sure dirt wasn’t tracked into our new, clean home, so we had nearly everything put in the garage. Is it our job to tell the workers to work harder or is that the supervisors job? I didn’t complain about them taking breaks, taking one small item at a time, walking slow, or being on their phones because I didn’t think I’d be charged for it. I figured either the supervisor would know to cut that time out of the job (which he didn’t because he was inside wrapping furniture), or Ramsey’s management would take care of it. Which they did not. They felt that because the move was completed ahead of schedule and under-budget that everything was great, the problem is they only moved 60% of the items that were originally in the quote. That quote was for 26 man hours, it somehow took 22.5, that’s only 14% less time for 40% less stuff! Clearly something was amiss, but Ramsey’s thinks everything was peachy. Our concerns fell on deaf ears at Ramsey’s, I hope this review helps you have a better moving experience with a different company. Edit* This is the only way to respond to the owner. Again the concerns fall on deaf ears here. It will be your job to manage the workers if you hire them. Concerns were mentioned to Ramsey's management immediately. Their response was to wait till Monday to handle it. Connection to another moving company, yes my wife's brother owns a successful moving company in another state. Character limit
We bought our West Philly rowhouse in 2015, and we love all the details from its construction in 1886--especially because there have been some key improvements through the years. The previous owners installed the full-size washer and dryer on the second floor, and we really appreciated that, especially after our son was born in August 2019. When he was one month old, the washer died, and we knew it needed to be replaced. And that's when we realized that thanks to those narrow nineteenth-century stairs, the only way to get the old machine out and a new machine in was through a second-floor window. Luckily for us and our ever-growing pile of baby laundry, Ramsey's made it happen. Scott and his team carefully hoisted our brand-new washing machine to the second floor and even took the time to install it in the stack with our existing dryer, with Scott grabbing tools and hardware from his own car to ensure the most secure connection. They also carefully removed the old machine and set it out for disposal. The meticulous rigging and complex installation wound up taking longer than expected, but Scott generously took himself off the clock and even waived the hoisting fee to lower the old washer so as to keep the costs down. The crew was unfailingly pleasant to work with, and they were careful throughout to protect our floors, walls, and windowsills. We certainly hope that our new washer lasts a long time--but at least now we know to call Ramsey's next time!
I have known Scott 20 years. He has not moved me once. But 3 times!! Always on time Always a professional staff. Have never had damage to any of our furniture or wall, doors interior or out. If you are truly looking for an efficient, easy move I most definitely recommend Scott Ramsey. Ramsey's Moving !!!!!!
Great to work with. We had a great move with Ramseys with nothing damaged. I highly recommend.
We just finished a move with Ramsey and from scheduling the move until the job was complete it was a great experience. They were prompt, professional and worked extremely hard (in the 90 plus degree weather). I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for professional top notch movers.
