Diane the property manager was very helpful and informative. Easy process and I highly recommend renting here!
A decision to move personal items to storage is often emotional and can have an intense back story attached. Its not always to store some extra items. Life changing events can be the catalyst like, illness, divorce, death, job loss, housing loss... I had a 2.5 year tenancy at the Safeguard in Lombard. My decision to move my whole live/work space into multiple units was intended to allow time for me to complete treatments for a serious illness that I was fighting. I had to extend my time an additional year for a second round of treatments. During my time there, the staff was kind, friendly, compassionate, caring approachable and personable. There is a clear and consistent theme in the company culture during my tenancy there. I once rented from a competitor over a decade ago for my event business and felt no warmth, poor customer service, and a rude/cold and sterile vibe. Safeguard went above and beyond when I had an issue and they trouble shot with me. Will from Lombard is one of a kind! He had amazing intuition when I was having a bad day and always had a smile and a granola bar when I came in to pay my bill. He treats his management position there like he would treat the business if it was his own. Special thanks to these specific team members who made me feel like a person and not just another number or a dollar sign: Jim from Darien (always asked me, 'How can I help'), Gill Operations/general manager (A.K.A. 'Captain Resolution') of multiple locations and places his direct company cell phone on his business cards for easy access to him, has a kind/ friendly demeanor and is always willing to help when I had some technical difficulties in the payment portal or unique obstacles, Frank who was super friendly and helped me with logistical planning for my move in, Steve, Robert, Kareen from the kiosk support team were also very amazing. Over the years there, I did experience a few system hiccups but the resolution is what is most important to me as a customer. I will say that the locations are tidy, spotless, safe, cozy, organized, well lit, and clean bathrooms too. With this world becoming more digital, my only wish is that the newly installed kiosks don't end up taking away from the personal relationships and vibe which is why I chose them and kept staying there. If I need storage again, safeguard will be my first choice. Thanks to the team of employees that pulled me through the toughest time in my life. Thanks so always willing to listen and help!
Laura was wonderful, professional, courteous!
Just posted on Yelp but figured I'd post here, too. These guys are the best. I've moved with them twice and recommended them to others who've used them as well. Up-front and accurate quote, faster than greased lightning. No BS just good, quick, cost-effective service.
WORST MOVING COMPANY EVER. I've used a lot and this by far takes the cake. They lost my 70' Sony TV and my brand new coffee table. They keep telling me they're looking for it. This doesn't included all the stuff they damaged which I won't write about cause I don't care compared to the missing TV. To top this all off, they tell you insurance is included but don't explain what that means before you sign. The insurance covers 60 cents per pound of the item. So if my TV weighs 100lbs (which it doesn't) they will only give me $60. This is not acceptable. I paid over $1200 for something that you have misplaced, I should be compensated for actual cash value. Do not ever use this company.
UPDATE 10/17 - After submitting a claim on 10/3 (I asked for $200 to be returned, splits the extra cost of the time), I received a response on 10/9. They apologized for my experience and stated , “I can get $175 approved as a full settlement but we kindly ask you (not requiring you, because that is illegal) to delete your negative online reviews.” I responded on 10/10, that I am asking for $200 back and anything less would not suffice and that asking me to delete my review is shady. They responded back that asking isn’t illegal, requiring that I take it down for a settlement is. After this exchange, I have not heard back. I followed up on 10/10, 10/15, and 10/16, and 10/17. I have not heard back regarding the return of my money.
10/8 - I would be cautious of working with College Hunks for moving. The quote I received for my move was inaccurate and their services costed me more than double my original quote.
I was quoted 4 hours for a move on 9/26 at $179/hour with 2 men. I was very clear what my items were and that I had 3 flights of stairs. When the movers arrived at my condo, they took a look at my stuff and claimed that it would probably only take 3 hours. The move ended up taking 6.25 hours and cost me a total of $1,700 ($200 was tip). Loading my items at my original location took 4 hours, the new place was 2.7 miles away (10 minute drive), and the remainder of the time was at the new location. I called the day after to discuss my experience and that it was unacceptable it took so long, even with my help going up and down the stairs. I was told that the average 2 bedroom apartment takes 4-6 hours and that their workers are background checked and not full of tattoos (that's offensive...as I have a tattoo, but I was told it was 'stigma'. I was given the runaround during the conversation and every excuse on why it took longer. I was told that someone would follow up with me. I didn't hear back until I called again and then was told I'd receive a email to file a 'dispute'. Never got the email, so I followed up again. They resent and I received a day later. After reviewing the email, the dispute was for damaged items. I called back stating I didn't have damaged items and that this was about the time it took to complete the job, never heard back. I called the phone number on my quote, and talked to someone who told me the owner would give me a call that night between 3PM - 5PM. Never got a call. I called again today where I was instructed to fill out the dispute claim via email and that is how they would continue contact.
I will say that Kyle, who helped me schedule my move was awesome. Also, the 2 movers that helped me on 9/26, were nice too. To be clear my issue is strictly with the original quote I was provided, the time it took to complete my move, and the process to discuss the issue. If I would have know It was going to take over 6 hours, I would have went with another company.
Joe and Jerse delivered my kitchen cabinets today. Grateful for their expert handling and care!
Theresa was amazing and very helpful.
