Beware! Nothing is covered under their insurance unless you pay them to pack it. My stainless steel refrigerator got deep scratches so its not covered plus they forgot the screw to attach my glasstop to the dining table. They knew and said nothing! They told me to get a screw at Home Depot! First, owner Randy said he would ask Rashelle to send me numbers discussed in advance. When she called to confirm I thought the owner had communicated everything I shared about the move. He did not. I asked her for email confirming costs again and she said she would send before the move. She did not. The team arrived and the hourly billing started while Aaron reviewed the 5+ page contract with me! I couldn't concentrate on what it said with 4 men standing around at my expense while I reviewed! Aaron kept repeating 'Sign here' while I tried to read it. I signed to get them to start working. Big mistake. I should have told them to leave. Very shady business practice. I signed under extreme duress. Owner was at a conference and said his supervising mover Aaron could handle all questions. Aaron said they could absolutely work late and deliver my items that same night since I didn't want to pay their daily truck storage fee of $175/250 per truck nor their drive time in rush hour traffic. (Rashelle the office mgr said $250. Aaron and contract said $175. Rashelle apparently doesn't know the contract still reads $175.) After the movers left I raced down the mountain after dark to try to catch up to them so they would not be waiting at my expense. After I was nearly down the mountain a manager called to say that for safety reasons they are not delivering my items tonight as Aaron promised. I replied What about my safety!? I should have been called sooner before I raced down a dark mountain trying to find them! I should not be charged for storage since I planned the move to avoid storage and rush hour traffic drive time. Randy the owner said Aaron could answer all my questions but this manager (David?) said no. He said they'll work out something on the storage charge. I told him I was not paying for storage. Rashelle called this am and said Randy would only charge me $175 for storage. I told her I should not be charged since it was a last minute change taken out of my control. She said I signed the contract stating this charge and what Aaron said is not a contract! I replied that this fee is optional if I wanted them stored, not required! Because I was pushing back she continually interrupted me even though I let her speak. She said they would hold my items hostage in storage and charge me their daily rate unless I agreed to pay! She did not authorize the movers to deliver my belongings until I agreed. I said fine, go ahead and deliver. I'll sue. (Again, I agreed under extreme duress. She said calls are recorded.).
Movers had attitude because I didn't have everything packed. It was a huge move which I told Randy when I booked it and I was alone doing everything. I said I would be packing as they were moving. This was not communicated to the movers it seems. I had a couple of stair treads break during the move so they stopped moving items upstairs until they were repaired. Thankfully I got someone there in 1 hour to repair the treads. I found the movers just looking at everything downstairs while the repair was happening. Out of frustration I asked Why aren't you moving anything?! One mover said 'It isn't my fault your stairs broke!' Another mover used my boxes I purchased to pack bedding! I said I was going to use trash bags for non-breakables and use the boxes for breakables! He responded 'They were in our way and its too late they are already on the truck!' The owner would not pay me for the boxes they used but they charged me $40 for one roll of plastic wrap!
Aaron glared at me while I reviewed final #s. He said my issues were between me and the company and said I was now on his time! Again, I signed under duress after he insisted I sign that all items were moved to my liking! His job is only to move items and get papers signed! Scammers!
I used these guys once and they were great. Scheduled a move with them and they flaked. Don’t recommend Nico at all.
Problem solved. After discussing this with the owner, he will refund me $200. I like the fact that they will discuss a problem and solve it.
On there way to Big Bear, they called me and said hiway 18 is closed. They are going to charge me $180 more to turn around and go hiway 38. Caltrans has it posted closed 8am-3pm Aug 12-29. Why is this my fault??? I told them it's not fair, they charged my credit card anyway.
Movers were wonderful. They helped me put our bed together and they were steady workers on a very hot day.
Edit: After seeing my review, they refunded the extra charges they charged my mother. I am deleting a portion of my review. My mother would like to add that the actual men who helped move her items did a good job.
My mother used this company to move items from her storage unit into a new rental home after our entire house burnt down. Despite the name “Big Bear Moving”, they are located in Redlands. They didn’t check road conditions before leaving to come to Big Bear, and very stupidly chose to come up the 18. Which is closed. Theres signs everywhere saying its closed. Caltrans website says closed. The owner apparently lives in Running Springs, which is definitely a lie because all locals know the 18 is closed.
So they got partway up, saw it was closed, and called my mother to tell her she was on the hook for their mistake and had to pay $180 extra to recoup their lost time and gas. For their own mistake. She argued with them, but they were firm. So they overcharged her because they don’t know how road conditions work and didn’t read any of the 50 signs about it on their way.
