Big Hill Movers

Straight shooters, good polite team, from a fast estimate (which was pretty accurate based on what I shared only over the phone) to move day. And, no surprises like trying to change the bill. I would have appreciated that they alert me to a ding in the drywall that happened as they moved things up a tight staircase; but, instead found that after they left. (freshly painted apartment, so very easy to spot... but also an easy fix since the landlord left extra paint in the basement).

YES, I'd recommend them for their reasonable hourly rate fee structure (3.5 hour minimum per job... I moved a 2 BR condo with extra tools, lots of storage boxes and a home gym with three guys in 4 hours... filled the 17 foot truck almost exactly halfway).

I had the pleasure of working with Anthony McWhinnie. When I e-mailed Anthony, he responded right away; when I called Anthony, he picked up right away. His service is exceptionally outstanding and the amount of knowledge Anthony has is insurmountable. Anthony and his team are great and can move anything. They have big machines and all the equipment needed for any removal. ANTHONY, THANK YOU!

Some advice if you plan to hire these movers...

I hired these movers for a move that entailed moving stuff from my house to storage less than 1 mile away. The quote I initially got had estimated the move to take 4 hrs and had a 3.5 hr minimum charge on the fine print. It only took 2.5-hrs for the move. Make sure you ask about this minimum charge when asking for a quote.

At the end, they also tried to tack on a $75 fuel surcharge onto my bill which was never mentioned when I got the quote. I explicitly asked how they charge and the lady over the phone (Madeline was her name) said it's strictly per hour. No mention of a minimum charge or any other surcharges. Beware of any extra charges they try and tack on into the bill.

The thing that disappointed me the most was that the movers weren't very careful with my items. They scratched my laundry machine and wooden desks, and were generally moving items with haste and carelessness. At one point when I was standing there looking they finally got some moving blankets and started to use those to protect items. The whole time they seemed like they were hurrying to finish and go home.

Lastly, for what it's worth, I saw one of them vaping during the job. I don't think that's very professional from my experience with hiring other moving companies.

All in all, from my experience, I would not recommend them but perhaps I just had bad luck because most of the reviews here seem positive.

UPDATE since I last communicated with the owner:

The owner was sorry that I had this experience. He did refund me for the amount of time that wasn't spent moving my stuff. I also did send the owner photos of some of the damaged items, to show that I wasn't lying, but didn't hear back.

I have made several moves in my life, and I can unequivocally say that Big Hill Movers is by far the best moving company that I have ever used. I found them on a neighborhood webpage on which I requested recommendations. Several businesses were named, so I contacted the ones with the most glowing reviews. The estimate from Big Hill Movers was the lowest of the 3, so I arranged to have Anthony, the owner, come to my place to give me a more accurate estimate. He was a positive, cheerful person who I liked instantly, so I chose his company. Brandon, Paul, and Felipe were the team sent to me. What nice guys! They were careful, intelligent, efficient, and kind. Honestly, they were so helpful that they made my move a stress-free experience. As you can tell, I highly recommend Big Hill Movers. Choose them, you'll be glad you did.
