Coffey Bros. Moving - Chicago Movers

I contacted Coffey Bros Moving and spoke with Eric who was very helpful with scheduling a move for me for February 14. I let him know that I had everything wrapped and that I just needed to be moved. The estimate quoted was $470 and I paid the deposit.

Edgar and his colleague showed up to start the move and brought rolls of tape, blankets, and boxes. I told them I didn’t need anything wrapped, that it was all packed. I was informed that they had to, it was their job, and that they are required to take photos of the truck once it is loaded. I understood this to be a requirement on their part.

While they did a great job, it became frustrating because it took them so long to wrap everything. It was very over the top and I knew I was going to be charged more for the hourly time.

Once we got to the home, Edgar gave me the new estimate that was OVER $1300. That was not including the tip that I gave them. While moving is a stressful time in itself, being taken advantage of by a moving company was not what I was expecting. The “boss” who I spoke with on the phone was not helpful at all and very condescending. To move a ONE BEDROOM at this cost should be unlawful.

Though I kept saying I didn’t want wrapping and boxing on top of what I had already done, not one person EVER told me I would have to pay for boxes, packing tape, etc. THE MOVERS TOLD ME THEY HAD TO. Also, when I spoke with Eric I was told that travel time would not be included in the moving time that was charged hourly, that the $140 travel fee covered that. Edgar told me that was incorrect, so I was essentially billed the $140 travel fee on top of the hourly rate for them to drive, another example of being taken advantage of by Coffey Bros Moving.

**Attached Photo is packing supplies charges I did not want and was not made aware I was responsible until right before they started unloading at the new location. This packing also added over 2 hours extra time at a rate of $140/ hr.**

If you contact the claims department they will continually tell you it's in review, to give them a few days. They will do this for a couple of weeks, then tell you they have 120 days to come up with an answer. Then you will get a response, even when they admit that you 'checked' the box that you don't want them to wrap anything, that a refund will not be issued.
