We hired Coffey Bros. moving company to move us at the end of August 2024. We were quoted $2215.56 to move all of the large furniture in a 3 bedroom 1500 square foot house. When all of our stuff was brought to the new house, and it was time to unpack they wouldn’t unpack until we paid. That is fair. We were charged $3800.00 $1584.44 MORE than we were quoted! During the move there was some damage done to the walls in our old house. The movers told us someone could come out the next day to repair the damage. When I called to set that up no one answered the phone-multiple times. Our realtor also reached out. After several days of no response, our lawyer also reached out to have the repairs made. Eventually we got a response saying it would be 30-60 days until someone reached out to us with claim forms. I received those forms on October 1st. We ended up paying for the repairs to the tune of $700 prior to getting the claim department to respond to us. We had copies of receipts for work done and even had the lawyers write a check for the work. The damage was caused in several areas of the house. The most extensive damage was in the basement stairwell where the movers attempted to force a treadmill up the stairs without taking it apart. In their denial of our claim to be repaid, they claim that the movers told my husband it wouldn’t fit and he told them to move it anyway. In fact what happened is the movers told my husband they were going to attempt to move the treadmill up the stairs without taking it a part to save money. My husband agreed since we moved the same treadmill down the same steps years prior without taking it a part or causing damage to the walls or door frame. We simply turned it to the side and pivoted through the door. When the movers hit the wall, they did not attempt to turn the treadmill, they did not stop and decide to take it apart. Instead, they used force to continue to push the treadmill up the stairs and through the doorframe causing damage to the walls and doorframe.
When moving our dining room table, the movers turned the table onto the side to pick it up without removing the lazy Susan in the center of the table. This caused the lazy Susan to fall out right into the freshly painted wall. This made a large gauge in the wall as well as chipped the top of our dining room table. This claim was denied with Coffey Bros. stating that they weren’t responsible for the table because it isn’t solid wood. The fact that the table isn’t solid wood had nothing to do with the movers not taking out the lazy Susan. They denied the claim for the gauge in the wall stating that they aren’t responsible for “surface damage”. That wall, as stated previously, was freshly painted and required to be mudded, sanded and repainted. Coffey Bros. also damaged another wall in our previous home by hitting a piece of furniture on it. This claim was also denied to be repaid due to them again saying it was “surface damage” and they aren’t responsible for “surface damage”. The area also needed to be mudded, sanded, and repainted.
Two days ago (Feb 18,2025), I got the denial of claims to be repaided. When I asked how to appeal this decision, I was told that it is final and they will not be negotiating it anymore. I was absolutely astounded. I feel like we were mislead with their pricing (but what could we do? All of our belongings were on their truck). We were told they would make repairs and then ignored. I felt 100% that we would be reimbursed for what we paid since the movers clearly caused the damage. I am incredibly disappointed that we picked this company. Please do not be fooled by their reasonable quote because it’s not what you will pay and they will cause damage to your home and belongings. They will then deny your claim and ignore you. This entire experience has been frustrating and disappointing. There is no empathy from them for damaging your things and taking your money. They know the claims are too small that you won’t be able to fight them in court either. The way they run their business is disgraceful and disgusting.
Orlando and Pablo were great, long job and they got it done in a reasonable time and were very professional.
Edgar & Alex M were AMAZING!!! They showed up on time, were very professional and made my move a breeze. I would highly recommend them for future services.
Coffey Bros. Moving did a great job moving my house. Orlando, Pablo, and Jose were professional and efficient. A reliable company for your moving needs.
The movers were excellent, took great care of the items and ensured everything was safely packed and delivered. They were very efficient and were able to complete the job within the allocated time.
The 1 star review is of Eric (booker) and Peter (dispatch). BE WARNED- they are total scammers! I hired this company primarily because of my timeline- I couldn’t get anyone else to accommodate my schedule. I was prepared to pay for materials- blankets, tape, wrapping film, etc and in fact, I had some materials lying around the movers end up using. But during the booking process, I was told repeatedly that materials were free of charge, that I was paying for time, and was given a 2.5 hrs quote for a 1 bedroom apartment move of IKEA boxes, disassembled furniture, already packed knickknacks, a 45in dining table and a queen size mattress and split box. All of that for $500 with a deposit of $240 that I was able to make online. The crew was scheduled for 1-3 pm, which was great since we were expecting snow after 5 so weather wasn’t a factor. Well, that was the first red flag. Dispatch texted me 30 mins before my window saying the crew was delayed in the previous job and their eta was now an hr later. 4 hrs later they show up, right as the storm is starting!! After they reach destination I get a call from dispatch saying that my total was $1200, on account of materials, additional time that included the crew’s meal break, travel , gas and insurance. Materials which were originally included as free, I was now charged for full rolls of tape when they were all partial and at one point they even used the materials I had around, break time that should have never been changed to the customer, and double dipping on travel and gas. They even had the audacity to request pictures of credit card and Id to process the final charge when deposit was done using an encrypted link. Never again!!
