TLDR; we paid 42% more than what we were quoted.

We were told not to use movers up here and use some people that do moving as a side hustle so we wouldn't get taken advantage of. I should've listened to that advice but went with a moving company because they're licensed.

We got quoted $770 via phone to move the following from Eagle-Vail to Edwards (10 min drive): chairs, grill, rowing machine, kitchen table, crib, 3 dressers, one queen mattress, one king mattress, a queen bed and a king bed. We moved everything else we own by ourselves. The $770 was a quote for their minimum and we were told to 'feel free to add some things because there is no way it will take 4 hours.' Well when you move very slowly you can apparently take 6.25 hours to move the list of things above. My wife mentioned that she was so frustrated with how fast they were going that she just started moving some of the items into the garage for them.

Aside from the 2.25 additional hours we were charged an hour drive to get from Eagle to Eagle-Vail and an hour drive to get from Edwards to Eagle. Anyone who lives in Eagle County knows it doesn't take an hour to get to and from those places. You can bike from Edwards to Eagle in under an hour.

Final thing, we were never told that using a credit card is 2.5% additional. My wife had to call me at work and I had to drive over to the house to write a check.

To put it into perspective just over a year ago we paid $2700 to move everything we own from Denver to Eagle County so paying almost $1200 to move a fraction of that 10 min down the road feels like we were completely taken advantage of.
