I am very disappointed with my experience with this company. What should have been a straight forward move from their storage unit to my house turned into a frustrating experience due primarily to dismissive, condescending and insensitive comments from Ted starting almost immediately.
1st, he did not disclose he was planning to charge me more for the move than our original binding agreement terms. Due to a bad renovation, my belongings were in storage with him for years (they've made 10's of thousands off of me). When they showed he dropped that bomb and said he would not unload the truck unless I agreed to the new higher price. He then berated me saying he was doing me a favor by not charging more.
2nd, in scheduling the move I specifically asked if my belongings could be wrapped and protected given renovations are still happening. He said he would not provide his blankets but could do wrapping (i had my own blankets and had rest could be wrapped in plastic). However once onsite he declared he does not wrap furniture (though he some of my pieces were in fact wrapped by him for storage). If he had been up front about that I could have coordinated with someone to ensure my belongs were protected.
3rd, when he arrived we walked through where things would go. I'm organized and had all my boxes labeled. I told him at the start where 3 large pieces of furniture would go, given thr intent to put boxes on top of them. When it came time to put the boxes on he complained and berated me and said he 'not a designer' which was a nonsensical statement.
4th, he complained about the work which he was hired to do and making me pay more for. From getting the couch to the top floor to stacking the boxes, to setting up the dininroom table, he had slock comments to make which was very unprofessional and frustrating.
5th, some items were damaged (like my vacuum) or missing pieces or had pieces undone during the move (like handles to an antique) and he brushed them off saying insurance only covers a little and he's seen people lose everything. So basically I should get over it was the underlying suggestion. Very, very unprofessional.
6th, when opening a box containing a TV which was supposedly sealed, tons of mouse dropping came out which is disgusting. How could this happen I a sealed storage facility.
I DO NOT reccomend using them based on all of above. While his movers were very nice, Ted left much to be desired.
Ted and his team went above and beyond. They made moving, with four separate stops, painless and quick. They were super careful and thorough. Outstanding service and very highly recommended!!
Do not recommend. This was our follow up email and we have yet to receive a response. While the first part of our move/pick up went extremely smoothly and the crew was fantastic, unfortunately the delivery was the opposite. We were originally told we would receive 48 hours notice of delivery date (updated when the crew was leaving from GA to come to NJ). The notice we were given was 1 hour prior to their arrival. Thankfully we were home and could quickly prepare, but 1 hour notice after we had been waiting 8 days was inappropriate and we can see how easily it would be for someone to miss their delivery with that type of service. We had also called during those 8 days waiting for our furniture and reached out to Maria for an update. She not only seemed irritated that we contacted her but also told us that our furniture was all unpacked and stored in a warehouse until further notice when it would be reloaded on a new truck and sent to NJ. We don’t recall ever being told that our furniture would be unloaded, stored and reloaded on a new truck during this moving process.
The delivery crew consisted of 2 people, one of which was wearing flip flops. They seemingly had no regard for our furniture or boxes. The dolly was loaded 3-4 boxes high with clearly marked “Fragile” items sitting on the bottom. Many of the boxes appeared squished and damaged and had we not packed all of our breakable items well, we are certain many more would be in pieces based on the carelessness. One of our nice couches had a leg come off completely, stripping the wood that it was screwed into. Thankfully we were able to reattach it and I think the meticulous wrapping by the pickup crew saved this piece of furniture. The delivery crew members could have cared less and seemed irritated that we spent the time attempting to reattach the leg. We had to throw out several pieces of furniture (bookshelf, cat tower, end table, etc) due to irreparable damage that we felt could have been avoided. We understand that a long distance move increases the chances of damage to furniture, however, the irresponsible stacking of boxes and poor handling of our larger pieces we felt was unprofessional and unnecessary.
Another issue we had regarding the delivery crew was the annoyance and attitude they gave us when we asked one of them to assist with reassembling our bed. We were told up front that anything that was disassembled would be reassembled at delivery. One of the crew members said “that is not in our job description.” They also threw all of the tape and furniture wrap in the middle of our apartment hallway stating it was “not their responsibility to throw it out” so we would have to do it ourselves. We were told that at delivery our furniture would be placed wherever we wanted it so we wouldn’t have to move anything large by ourselves. We asked the crew to help us lift the couches so we could put the area rug underneath and they seemed irritated that we even asked for their assistance which they reluctantly provided.
We felt we should be compensated for the damaged furniture due to unprofessional handling on the delivery end but have heard nothing back from the company. Even an apology or addressing our concerns would have been nice considering the amount of money we paid for this service.

Just wanted to share my experience with Direct Moving and Storage. I recently made the big move from New York to Los Angeles, and these guys made it a breeze. Seriously, from the get-go, they were super professional and helpful. They took great care of all my stuff, making sure nothing got damaged along the way.
And shoutout to Ted, the owner, who was right there in the mix with his crew, making sure everything went smoothly. It's not every day you see the boss getting their hands dirty like that.
Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better moving experience. If you're planning a move, I highly recommend giving Direct Moving and Storage a call. They really know their stuff!
