Warning: Deceptive pricing that will nearly double!

The online pricing and the pricing we were told in person were both misleading. We signed up in person at Extra Space Storage in College Station, TX, for a 10'x10' unit, and the price quoted with tax was $79 per month. At that time, there was no mention of this being a 'new customer pricing' that would nearly double in a few months. After the first 4 months, the rate increased from $79 to $148. The following is directly from their website FAQs and is the only mention of increased pricing I could find.

'Is my price guaranteed for as long as I rent?
Extra Space Storage works hard to provide value for our customers through competitive pricing and by maintaining clean, safe, and secure facilities with the best customer service in the self storage industry. Please keep in mind that your original monthly rate is not guaranteed for the life of your rental with Extra Space Storage. From time to time, we adjust our customers’ rental rates to keep up with the rising costs associated with providing top-notch service and a clean, secure facility.'

I called to complain, and they did bring the price down to $115. That's still considerably higher than the quote we were given, and a very poor business practice that you have to call to complain to lower your rate. And good luck finding their office phone number. The number listed is an automated system. Call that number and wade through their menus to get the office number. For the store in College Station, TX, on Earl Rudder Freeway, the office number is 979-401-4103.

I had a storage unit for almost two years and can say I had nothing but positive experience. Amazing customer service, clean facility, and Sheila was the kindest most accommodating employee. You can set up autopay in the app and never worry about your items. Call before you rent and they’ll show you around and see what works best for your space needs. Prices fluctuate but if you call they’ll work with your needs. Thank you Extra Space Storage College Station!!
