After being a customer for a few months, I feel it's necessary to update my review. I originally chose Extra Space Storage because of the option to pay upfront for an extended period (1 to 2 years). I initially prepaid for 12 months. Recently, I noticed that the price for the unit size I rent was posted at a great rate. I called corporate to lock in another 24 months at that rate. Unfortunately, they informed me that they could only allow me to prepay for 2 months. They suggested I contact my specific location for further assistance.

I called the Saratoga Springs location, but the representative I spoke with was very rude. She informed me that the posted rate was only for new contracts and that existing customers would see their rates increase after signing up. She also mentioned that when my current prepaid term expires in May, my rate would increase by $70 compared to what I was paying when I first became a customer just six months ago.

Frustrated, I contacted another location where I’ve worked with staff before for another unit. The manager there was incredibly helpful. He took the time to look up my account and explained that corporate recently changed their policy, limiting prepayments to a maximum of 6 months. I appreciated his honesty and effort to clarify the situation.

However, as a company, I am very disappointed in Extra Space Storage. The initial review I posted was based on my move-in experience, written before I had any significant dealings with them. They push hard for positive reviews right after move-in, so I left one to appease them. Now, having had more interactions, my experience has drastically changed.

Great facility, great rates, and very helpful office staff.

Clint and Evan were SO HELPFUL to me while I was moving from one storage unit to the next and I loved how professional and kind they were to me.

The unit came clean, and it's a nice unit, the staff is excellent. They are so helpful they just spent the last hour helping me get unstuck in my van.
