Extra Space Storage

My family rented a storage space from the Orem location for about eight years. Initially, the service was excellent, and the pricing was very fair. However, over the last few years, the monthly rates have risen at a shocking pace. I went back and calculated the annual increase for the rate (CAGR), and it was 16% PER YEAR over eight years. It was a great deal--for them!

The straw that broke the camel's back was horrible service from a rep named Brenda. We went into the office to ask for the account to be changed due to a recent death in our family. Brenda told us it was impossible and would have to go to corporate legal department. After getting our lawyer involved, we were informed that, contrary to Brenda's response, we would be able to change the account and obtain access to the unit. But this took nearly six months, and by then, the damage was done. How can anyone store heirlooms and family treasures with people who treat us poorly and destroy our trust?

Customer friendly businesses don't require you to call them after the fact so that they can 'address concerns.' They go out of their way to ensure a culture that puts customers first. Unfortunately, this isn't one of them.

While the last 6-7 months of our relationship with Extra Space were frustrating and disappointing, on the bright side, capitalism is a wonderful system! During our battle with Extra Space Storage, I set up a business to compete with places like them by offering better pricing, better treatment and better service to customers. Not only am I saving the exorbitant fees and avoiding the incompetent and rude service, I'm helping to create a better marketplace for people who need storage solutions and want to be treated fairly and with respect.
