not good not much more to say about them. they can't pay me to give a good review.
My personal experience was good. My needs and budget were less constraining than most, so I’ll review with relevant context.
Andy was quite proactive and easy to work with on scheduling, etc. Would’ve been nice to have a rough estimate of the duration of the job, but I understand why they avoid doing that.
In the end, the truck was bigger (27’) than I needed but the number of guys (2) was just right for my 2bd condo. I thought Brandon and Luke were rather swift, taking ~5.5 hours to complete the move with ~5min driving between sites. A little extra time (and personal effort) was eaten up by repeating directions and correcting furniture placements, but it wasn’t much more than 30min total. The total ($929 plus a generous tip) was something I could live with.
That said, I wasn’t super impressed by the level of care. While everything arrived intact, a few boxes labeled fragile were crushed and dented. A lot of scratches and dents to furniture. I only saw one item dropped - a durable one, thankfully. My wood bed frame was moved without protection - so too my mattress, couch, wooden end table, and a leather vintage chair - on a damp, muddy Portland winter day. At one point my couch cushion was laid face down on the wet, dirty truck ramp. Things happen, but still… scuffs and blemishes abound when literally nothing is done to prevent them. FWIW, I don’t think any of this separates them from most other earnest movers and im not letting it spoil an otherwise smooth service.
Competent movers, but would not rehire for packing.
Packers used excessive material to the point my husband asked if they were 'normal.' We unwrapped multiple single items in giant sheets of paper - one silicone baby spoon, a plastic tupperware lid, a rubber sippy cup spout, etc. Not only did it take us more time to unpack, but we also paid for the material and the extra time it took for them to do this.
Despite this, one delicate, sentimental item was packaged so roughly it disintegrated.
I reached out to the Director of Sales 2 weeks ago with my feedback, with no response.
HIRE THEM! I'm so thankful we went with Gentle John's for our move! They are truly lifesavers and made our moving day seamless and pain free. We hired three movers and they were perfectly on time, hard working, careful with our things, funny, kind and all around great energy. We would hire this crew every move! (But also, I hope we're not moving again for a long time because it's brutal.) Thankful the team at Gentle John's was available. Absolutely worth the cost! Thanks, Gentle John's!
