My family and I chose Green Valley Moving to move my grandma from Staunton to Richmond and the end result was extremely disappointing. The movers stacked all of the boxes across the opening from the dining room to living room (nothing in bedrooms or the other living space) so we couldn’t get in to the living room and had to move a quarter of the total boxes before even starting to unpack. That took hours. We would specially give directions where the labeled boxes needed to go and they would completely disregard both the writing on the boxes and our requests. Upon unwrapping several large framed pieces of artwork, we found many had shattered frames and we ultimately had to pay to have them replaced. Valuables that we’d taken extra care to wrap and mark as fragile were broken, as were lamps and other items. This was the worst moving experience any of us have had.
Greenvalley movers did our move this week. They were absolutely terrific! The gentlemen were so courteous and were very conscientious! The estimated time to move us was 7 to 8 hours. They did it in 5 hours with care and effectiveness. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a great moving company.
We contacted Green Valley Moving for our move, and were extremely happy we did! They handeled our furniture with great care and packed everything great! We had great communications with them and highly recommend John Spinner and his crew for your move. They are very affordable.
I wish that I could give these guys a better score, but unfortunately I can't. When they did our move, it was to a new home several hours away. Since everything was loaded up late, and since we had 2 young children, it was decided that we would stay in a motel somewhere about half-way there, and meet them at the new address the next morning.
Well, several hours into the move, we got a call from the foreman/lead driver telling us that they had decided not to stop over (to repeat, the stop over was agreed upon by both parties) , and had driven on through the night. They told me that they expected to arrive at the new address around 2am in the morning and that we needed to be there if we wanted them to move items from the truck into the new house, otherwise the crew would 'unload the truck onto the lawn and head back home.'
So...tired as we were from supervising and over-seeing the loading of the moving van, and with 2, very exhausted children, we slogged on to the new home and arrived just before they did. The off-loading of the van took several hours and because my wife and I were too exhausted to oversee everything, and because the movers were in such a hurry to leave, many of the boxes were just left in the living room and adjacent halls and not taken to their assigned rooms (even though that was part of the original contract that we paid for).
To add insult to injury, before the move, I had purchased 2 dozen new, furniture moving blankets, which GVM used. When it came time for them to leave, they stacked up a pile of the moving blankets, with a new one on top, and told me that they had folded them up as they off-loaded the furniture.
Well, the next day when I was partially rested, and somewhat coherent from the trip, I went to move the pile ONLY TO FIND THAT THE MOVERS HAD STOLEN ALL MY NEW BLANKETS AND REPLACED THEM WITH THEIR OLD, TORN, STAINED, DISGUSTING ONES. OMG. THEY JUST PUT ONE OF MY NEW ONES ON THE TOP TO FOOL ME. That is evil, sleazy, AND wrong, on many levels. As such, I cannot recommend them until the owner identifies and fires the people responsible for this behavior. It just give GVM a bad name. We all know though, that ultimately attitude comes from the top. The dirtbag, employee movers who did this to us did it because they thought they could, and get away with it.
It saddens me to write this review because we love the GV bookfair, and I've participated in several GV auctions with no problems (all the same family). But to be honest, the GV moving was a horrible experience that I wish on no one. If you decide to move with this company, PLEASE MAKE SURE that you get EVERY ASPECT of it IN WRITING, AND YOU HOLD THEM TO IT. I hope that writing about my experience saves people some angst and gives them some foresight.
