Review:

Hall-Lane Moving & Storage Co. who is only an agent for North American Moving Services, arranged to move our home contents from Long Island, NY to Arizona. North American Moving Services were great. Our driver, Wil, and his own crew, not Hall-Lane’s, did a fabulous job packing the truck (my wife and I packed 99% of boxed contents). Hall-Lane’s crew did pack our mirrors, a glass top coffee table and paintings and did a great job too. Another company, Alliance, had to build crates for a marble tabletop and a glass top for my entertainment console. All furnishings arrived in Arizona in perfect condition. No complaints at all. Now for the reason I only gave it three stars.

Alex Daflos, their salesman, gave a great talk and sales pitch. Unfortunately, some of the information / pricing he quoted was incorrect. For instance…he did a COMPLETE inventory for the estimate and there were some items that required special packaging (the ones previously stated). Well, approximately the day after my home furnishings were picked up my credit card was charged an additional $350.74 for the extra containers and packing on the shipment. No discussion about this was relayed to me prior to receiving an email the that my card was charged. After calling and emailing Meredith Cuomo in the Operations Dept. she told me some extra items had to be packed that weren’t included in the original estimate. However, the extra items that were packed were several glass shelves that were part of a dining room hutch and the glass tops to a coffee table that Alex clearly saw doing the inventory and ones that “I thought” were priced in already. I had included Alan in all my email communications pertaining to this charge and he NEVER once replied. It’s comical that during Alex’s visit he kept harping on North American’s / Hall-Lane’s PRICE LOCK Guarantee…ha-ha…jokes was on me…so much for that. He went on to further state during his visit that the quoted price for the move can sometimes be less after the truck’s load is weighed. If it was less, the price would be adjusted. When I asked him how I would know, he stated, “we will give you a “certified” weight. Well, I never received one. Bottom line, if Alex is your salesman, you’re in trouble. He was very communicative trying to obtain my commitment for the move, but once I signed on the dotted line there was COMPLETE radio silence from him.

My next issue pertains to tracking the load and determining when it would arrive. Again, Alex informed me that my moving coordinator, Nancy Menendez, would keep me informed. After no update for 9 days I called Nancy and she said she would get a hold of the driver. 24 hours later I called again and she indicated that she hasn’t heard back, but to call Robert, the dispatch. Robert did help and he informed me of a delivery date. Now it gets better. The crates that I mentioned were not going to be unpacked by the driver’s Arizona crew, which I knew. This was Alliance’s job to coordinate. Well, Alliance never showed up to unpack and because it was a Saturday, January 25, I could not call my Moving Coordinator, Nancy Menendez. We did connect on Monday morning, January 27 and she contacted Alliance who stated no date for the unpacking could be established until she arranged for a crew. Well the next day she informed me that a crew was going to be available, January 29, 4 days after my contents arrived. Really? I told them not to bother because I had already unpacked the crates myself (along with help from a friend) on the 28th. Once again Alex stated that the crates would be unpacked the same day as when my furnishings would arrive. When I emailed Nancy she was very apologetic and took complete responsibility for not coordinating the uncrating with Alliance. She then emailed me that Hall-Lane would credit me the cost allocated for the unpacking. One of the owners (I think he is) Allan Hall, was also on this email. That was 9 days ago and I’m still waiting. You would be ill advised to utilize another agent for North American Moving Service.

I can’t say enough good things about this company. Their men were super polite and professional. I had a situation where they had to pack up and move my belongings into storage while I purchased a new home. Once I was ready to have my belongings brought to me we scheduled for Monday. Then a snowstorm was predicted. Fearing I was going to have to wait more time to get my furniture. I called them to reschedule because I didn’t want their men driving during a snowstorm. So what did they do? They brought my stuff on Sunday! Amazing! But that’s not the best thing! Having paid in full my quoted price I was completely satisfied. Then a couple of days later I received a $537 refund because they had overestimated my charges. I wasn’t expecting anything from them. In fact, I was happy that I paid what was quoted. Can you imagine getting a refund without questioning or asking for it? They have to be the most honest moving company in the world! I’ve never been so happy with any business transaction in my life! Bravo!

My moving experience was so easy. The men went above and beyond. I moved to a remote area. The movers had to park on the street, which is a dirt road. They then had to go down a long driveway. Through it all, they were so polite. I definitely recommend this moving co.
