Hardy Moving & Storage

I recently sold a house and had to move only a 3 hour distance away. The man assessing the cost of the move sent me a quote saying it was going to be over 12,100 $ to move 1 house 3 hours away. He started telling me over the phone what I should get rid of and basically demanded that I know what I was going to keep or get rid of on his time frame and while he was speaking to me (I mean, on the spot). When I said I didn't know what I was going to keep yet and that I may keep the riding lawn mower, he said 'There's no maybe button on my computer.' I had no idea I was going to turn down his rate eventually because my agent had told me that he was the only mover in that area that could go to my new location-- so I actually gave away my riding lawn mower to a family friend because he said it would cost a ton to move it. Once he sent me the quote, I was absolutely shocked. I had already given away my mower not thinking in my wildest thoughts that he was going to quote such a high price. I had to ask a few times for the quote, too. While I didn't choose to use his company to move, and I cannot review their service for that, I felt that I could post this for how the quote was handled, and I felt his tone was rude and disrespectful. He walked through my house pointing at things and telling me I should just donate them because it would cost more to move them then they were worth--as if he gets to decide what is valuable to a person. He said he was trying to save me money, and I know he must protect his business and doesn't want to break anything, but I felt that was a disrespectful way of handling a potential client that might pay twelve thousand dollars! I think this company operates knowing that they are the only ones in the area that can help many people. Ultimately, I moved for less than 1500$ by renting my own Uhaul.

Moved 7 pieces of furniture from MD to OBX. Damaged 6 of them. 2 movers showed up, only 1 actually moved the furniture from the house to the truck. Had the driver come inside and helped, it would have prevented the damage. No attempt to protect the furniture from damage. Note to the truck driver: If you don't like handling freight, get your class A and go over the road! Otherwise take pride in your delivery and train your helper. Be a leader! Mr Hardy agreed to take 200.00 off the bill, but never did and didn't respond to email.
