Edit: The owner's reply to my review only reinforces my opinion. Oh, the packing crew SAYS everything was packed correctly? Of course they do. Well, my photos show otherwise, and shifting of the crate in transit absolutely did not place boxes in my bookshelf (which you claim was wrapped), nor did it cause the floor mats roll up on top of other items instead of lay flat on the floor, or put my barbell diagonally in between other items. Stop making excuses for your untrained and unprofessional crew.
Horrible loading service, estimation service, and customer service. Unskilled workers improperly loaded my items causing damages to many of them. When the container was opened, my belongings spilled out including a broken bookcase (that had boxes placed on the shelves). My rubber floor mats were rolled up rather than placed...on the floor, flat. My squat rack was laid crookedly on top of metal plates, with my heavy mats and bookcase on top, which bent the rack, and it now has to be REPLACED. Boxes were strewn about rather than stacked on top of one another. My dresser was loose among the weight equipment and damaged in the back, rather than flat against a wall. My bench, while not actually broken thankfully, suffered significant wear because they did not lay it flat upside down, but rather diagonally in the giant mess of everything else.
When they did my estimate, they tried to charge me for 2 containers, despite the fact they obviously only needed 1. This was based on one gentleman spending approximately 15 seconds in my home. I had to call them and convince them to drop it. Even with terrible loading, they managed it with one container. Surprise surprise.
You'll also find their post-move customer service to be awful. They do not handle the claim, United Van Lines does. UVL partners with these local movers and thus handles claims, which I understand, but UVL did not load my items, Hutchcraft did, and all they will be able to do for you is direct you to the UVL website.
Seriously, don't let these people touch your stuff. They don't train their employees on proper loading techniques. Though in all honesty, putting a flat rubber mat on the floor does not seem like something that needs to be trained. Same thing for placing boxes on a bookshelf. Or placing a metal rack flat on the floor. A 10 year old could have organized this container better. No training, and apparently no employment intelligence screenings.
Absolutely DO NOT USE HUTCHCRAFT for any moving needs. My engagement band and wedding ring coincidently went “missing” after we used this company to move. I packed up and moved the jewelry myself to the new house, yet they still went “missing”. The company is blaming their background check company for hiring a mover in our crew that had been arrested multiple times for theft - he even had two warrants out for his arrest when he was hired. Don’t use this company unless you want criminals moving your possessions. And after all of this, the customer service has been horrible!!!
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! They are unprofessional, and dishonest. We had someone from the company come out to give us an estimate about 3 months before we moved. He told us it will take 8 hours to move our belongings over a distance of 35 miles. He put an estimate of 11-12 hours to allow for any incidents. When the movers arrived, they had a smaller van and no boxes. It took them 2 days and 2 trips(16 hours instead of the original 8 hours we had been told).
We had to sleep on air mattresses because we had planned on a single day’s move. The coordinator of the move, Julie, told us we had received an email stating the move will take 14 hours and 2 days. She also insisted we should have stayed home to “supervise” the move. She was rude, unprofessional and a liar. When I insisted we had received no such email and for her to resend the email, she said she had mistakenly told us that because she confused our last name with another clients! Very fishy statement right there.
They ended up charging us 110% of the estimate for the move. I think they try to lure you to choose their company with lower hourly fees and time estimate and then cheat you in the end. We had another company make an estimate to move us in 6-7 hours at a higher hourly fee but we did not choose them because of the offer Hutchcraft made. The movers themselves were professional and courteous. The corporate company, Hutchcraft, is horrible. Sharing my experience so other people will know what to expect!
