J & A Moving responded to my inquiry immediately with a quote and specific move date and time. Nick and Walt showed up exactly when expected and were friendly, professional and efficient. This was a minor job, but I would definitely recommend them.

Waste of time. Requested a quote last week on Thumbtack, Google, even called a couple of times over the weekend (including leaving voicemails). Nothing.

If you’re looking for a company to make one of the most stressful events of your life (moving) even more stressful, then I highly recommend you give J&A Movers a call. They put on a great show to get your money. Joe, who wreaks like cigarettes, will come to your house for a thorough walkthrough to see what in all you have to move. He takes notes and convinces you of their high quality service and goes into detail about the great care they will take wrapping your belongings in blankets and securing everything in their 26’ truck. He’ll give you a price that’s competitive with most other moving companies and then tell you that they require a down payment to lock in the date you agree upon (in our case it was $705 for 3 guys for 3 hours for the move and $200 of which was down payment). Seemed reasonable and they supposedly had a date opening that worked with our schedule, so naturally we booked with J&A Movers and gave them the required $200 deposit. They supposedly only had one day open in the schedule for the rest of the month (Tuesday June 23rd with a 10am start time).

A week and a half passes from scheduling and now we’re at the scheduled moving day. We disassembled all of our furniture and staged everything to make it as easy and efficient as possible for Joe and his crew. 10am comes around and they aren’t there. That’s ok we figured, they’re just running a few minutes late. No big deal. Then 10:30 rolls around and still no one shows up or calls. Fine, we’ll give it a bit longer. 11am comes and still no one shows up nor the courtesy of a phone call so we decided to give Joe a call at this point. He answered (shockingly) and told my wife that his sister had booked another job that he wasn’t aware of and they were on that job moving more items than it was even supposed to be so that’s why they were late. My wife expressed concern about the rain that was supposed to be in the afternoon (Joe seemed surprised and didn’t know it was supposed to rain, which we found shocking for someone in his business that they wouldn’t check in on the weather each day). He said he’d need to reschedule and would come the next morning at 9am (that’s odd considering we were told the only available day they were open was the 23rd). My wife explained that we had literally torn everything apart and had it ready for them to move so we didn’t even have a place to sleep for the night. She asked that they at least come in the afternoon and move the beds and whatever they could safely move in the rain so we could at least have a place to sleep for the night. Joes response was “absolutely, whatever you want us to do. We’ll be there in a couple hours” (this was at 11:15am at this point).

A couple hours later at 1:15 and no one shows up. We gave it a little more time and then tried to call Joe on his cell and the other number for J&A Movers listed online. No answer on either so we left a voicemail (very polite by the way) and then also texted Joe. Waited a bit longer and didn’t hear back so we tried again. This went on the remainder of the afternoon with us trying to get ahold of them about every hour until 6 or 7pm when we finally just gave up. My wife was being optimistic that they would show up the next day at 9am as Joe had indicated for rescheduling. Here we are at 10:25 and they again aren’t answering the phone or responding to texts this morning. He’s got our $200 deposit (he ran the credit card IMMEDIATELY on the day we booked/scheduled) so I guess at this point we’ll be taking them to court to get our money back but worst of all because they completely jerked us around and it’s so last minute, we can’t get another moving company lined up so we’ll be having to do it ourselves.

PS - I have no idea how they have a 5 star rating online. Since there are only a handful of reviews I can only assume they are all friends or family that left them. I will say that a Realtor friend of mine had recommended J&A Movers to us and told us we’re now the second person in 2 weeks to have the same negative experience so he’s done recommending them now.

They were fast, careful and efficient. They had everything I needed for the move and assembled my bed I'm glad I won't be moving again for a long time but for an extremely stressful day, these 3 guys really put me at ease! They arrived right on time. They were extremely friendly, careful and knew what they were doing. Everything went quickly and efficiently. I had such a wonderful experience from J &A company. They moved me in a reasonable time. Nothing was ripped or broken at the end. They were at my house right at the scheduled time. I definitely recommend using this company! They were very professional. You won’t be disappointed! Thanks again!!
