Review:

I used United for a prior container move, without issue, so I chose them again when I needed another container move.

I signed an agreement for a container move, which the salesperson sold to me as “fewer moves of items” so less chance that something will break or get damaged. However, my items were picked up in a regular moving truck and delivered in a regular moving truck (see photos). This agreement was changed without my consent and without any prior communication. When I did this same move with United a few years ago, my items were picked up two buildings south in a container truck (so, why can’t they be delivered in a container truck to almost the exact same location) and my items were delivered in a container truck in FL (so, clearly container trucks are available in FL).

When I tried to get a credit, I was offered $300, which is a fraction of a long-distance move from FL to IL. This does not make up the difference for the type of move I paid for and the type of move I received. I have not even received that credit and my move was completed about a month ago at this point.

My moving coordinator escalated to her manager, who sent me one email telling me they couldn’t do more and never returned my phone calls. The regional manager in FL was included on emails and asked to comment on what happened on the origin side, but he never responded. I found the VP of Sales on their website and reached out. He dismissed my concerns. Moving is stressful enough without having a poor experience and being marginalized for asking to make a situation right.

In addition to having my agreement changed without my consent and without compensation, the movers at origin were terrible. They said they didn’t even know it was supposed to be a container move, so they didn’t have enough paper to wrap my items. They said they couldn’t use blankets because they would never get the blankets back. See photo of my patio furniture in the back. The head mover at origin told me I should have had 4 movers; I had 2. The move took 7 hours and I incurred extra cost with an extra hotel stay because the move took too long. Additionally, I was unable to see how much space I had left in the containers (since they were not actually there), so I discarded items that I would have kept if there was space. I incurred additional cost to replace those items.

This was by far the worst and most stressful move I’ve ever experienced. Use someone else who will honor the type of move you paid for and communicate with you in a respectful and helpful manner.
