Review:

I am still scarred from our experience here in Winthrop MA.

My partner booked this move several weeks ago, and explained that we would be moving from a third floor walk up to another place just down the road that also had a reasonable number of stairs. They quoted us a reasonable price of about $500, and that seemed really great. We don’t have a lot of $$$ so we were ecstatic because this would be our first move in our first owned property.

The morning of the move, the first gentleman arrived, 45 minutes late. Mind you, the company is local, so while that was immediately disconcerting I chalked it up to traffic, and the owner assured me on the phone that they’d be there soon.

The guy who arrived was barely awake, completely out of shape, and couldn’t even make it up the stairs without wheezing and coughing before ever lifting a single item. His partner then arrived not in a moving vehicle but a rented U-Haul truck. This guy at least was spritely and in shape, his name was John and he was the only positive part of this whole experience so I would like to give him credit for that.

The two of them struggled: John, moving fast and efficiently, and his friend not able to do anything without sweating, taking repeated breaks, spending about 15 to 20 minutes in my bathroom, and rejecting the water I offered him because he “only drinks bottled water“.

I then called the owner to politely say that I wasn’t sure exactly if his team would be able to handle the move. He laughed it off, well we both did, and he assured me that the third guy was on the way and that he wouldn’t charge me extra like he had originally planned. I don’t know that he understood that to me there was only one guy there, John, this other person might as well not have been there at all.

Eventually, after going to the wrong address, the third guy showed up and things started to move a little quicker, but still extremely slowly because John was relegated to intelligently packing the truck and the third guy had the misfortune of trying to work with guy #1 who was complaining over and over that he “doesn’t really do this stuff“.

Somehow, after three hours, these 2 1/2 people did unload our small two bedroom apartment and headed to the new condo just a couple of miles down the street where my partner was waiting for them. Once there, she began texting me that they were so slow and couldn’t handle the stairs at all, were continuously complaining, were in fact, damaging our items and the floor in the new place, and she had no idea how this was ever going to get resolved.

In the middle of all of this, the owner texted me that we in fact, had to pay in cash at the end of the move, something which was never relayed to us either during the booking or in the weeks prior, or even before they arrived to start the job. I asked the owner to call me, and he then said it would cost about 660 or $700, that the 500 he had quoted was only an estimate because “his guys didn’t know about all the stairs“.

We were exhausted and frantic at this point, and luckily several of our friends and family also showed up to help with car loads because things were going so slowly. My wife began texting me photos of the damaged items, which I then texted to the boss. He texted me back that the actual price was almost $800 and I immediately called him back and he proceeded to yell at me with barely letting me get a word in before hanging up the phone and then refusing to answer either mine or my wife’s calls. Throughout the day I kept hearing the name Sal so I assume that is who I was dealing with, but I’m not sure.

The final straw was when the movers refused to move anything else because of “fear of damage, and let us know that they were told not to leave until we paid the full amount in cash. My wife obliged just to get them off of our property and out of our hair.

I have no idea how this company operates elsewhere. It seems like they have done a good job, and again, maybe we just got unlucky.

We reached out about hiring a team just to unload our uhaul and Michael was kind on the phone and was flexible with our arrival time to the house (we drive the truck ourselves from NYC)
We had an awesome experience with the brothers, Anthony & Michael. Having just moved to Winthrop, they were kind, courteous, and welcoming. The brothers showed up on time and prepared (they even brought tools) and managed to unload our truck in record time, while taking great care with our belongings. We would definitely recommend them based on our experience.
