My Mason & Hamlin piano is my treasure, and I have come to trust Ben at Little Valley Piano Service to provide the best care possible. Ben has tuned my piano for years -as well as replaced worn parts, made adjustments to the pedals, and adjusted the voicing and regulation. He answers all my questions and fully explains each step he takes. When faced with the extreme dry air of Vermont winters, Ben suggested and installed a piano humidity control system that maintains the stability and health of the entire piano and ensures the fine-tuning lasts longer.

Communication with the office is quick and efficient. Reminders are timely and helpful. Invoices are clear and thorough.

I rented a piano from Little Valley Piano Service for a summer vacation in Vermont. They delivered a fantastic Kawai grand piano to our rental house, which enabled me and my friends to play chamber music throughout our vacation. Ben and his team were total professionals through the whole process of booking (I had a lot of questions, and couldn't visit Vermont to check out the piano options), delivery, fine tuning, and pick up. Moving a grand piano is not cheap, but the fees were very reasonable (and significantly lower than the one other company I contacted for a quote). Highly recommend Little Valley Piano Service!

I have a Mason & Hamlin Model A grand piano, built over a century ago, that I hadn’t played in many years. It has remained in very good condition, but it lurked in the house and on my conscience like the proverbial elephant in the room. When I finally realized that I missed playing and needed it back in my life, I signed up for lessons at the Middlebury Community Music Center. I asked them to recommend a tuner, and my teacher suggested Ben Rocke at Little Valley.

I got so much more than a tuning. Ben examined the instrument with the diagnostic skill of a surgeon.The keys had always had rather stiff action, which was not a flaw, but more suited to someone who practices a great deal (and does not have arthritis.) Ben suggested he could ease the action a bit.

In returning to the piano, I wanted it in exceptional condition so that, as I faced the inevitable frustrations of re-learning the relatively difficult repertoire I’d mastered in my teens, I would not be able to
blame any difficulties on the Mason & Hamlin. Ben gave me different estimates for the work that could be done to bring it back to its best life. He took out the keyboard and brought it to his Little Valley workshop and meticulously restored the bushings, subtly eased the action and attended to other repairs and tweaks as he deemed necessary. For a total cost of less than what I recently paid for a single dental implant and crown, Ben really gave me a lot of bang for the buck.

I was quite apprehensive about starting again after such a long hiatus.I know that the work Ben did, according to his best judgment, has made me and my piano friends again. He’s a technician and an artisan, and I’m grateful to have found him.

Anyone with a fine piano that could use some TLC would be in good hands with Ben Rocke and Little Valley Piano.
