Local Moving

I’ll start by saying that based on my experience using Local Moving LLC, I can honestly say I would not work with Local Moving LLC or their President of Operations, Jacob Bauman, ever again, even if they paid me to let them move my furniture. I had what I thought would be a straightforward, easy move. I was moving from a one-bedroom apartment to a two-bedroom unit in the same building. It ended up being a nightmare series of broken promises and additional costs and damages they admitted was their fault but refused to address.

When I initially asked for a quote, I was told that I would have to pay their full labor rate for their two-man team’s travel time to my building. Since I have a relatively small job, I asked from how far away they would be travelling. I was told they had a location near me in downtown Denver and that travel time wouldn’t be more than 15 minutes, maybe 20 minutes if there was traffic. When the team arrived, they told me that they were based in Commerce City and that I would need to pay for 45 minutes of travel time.

In my initial call and two follow up calls prior to the day of my move, I told them where my building’s loading zone and freight elevator were so they could find parking and unload their equipment quickly and easily. I was told all three times that this information that this information would be passed on to the team performing the move. In addition to the additional travel time that they informed me I would be charged for, the team performing the move said I would also be charged extra time for them to find a parking spot a few blocks away and transport their equipment to my building by hand. They said they were not given any information about where parking was available.

When moving one of my sofas, they tore the fabric in a very visible location. They admitted to causing the damage, noted it on the contract documents and said they would cover any necessary repairs per the contract terms. They told me someone would be in touch soon to arrange for the repair to be done.

Jacob Bauman, President of Operations for Local Moving LLC contacted me later that same day. He apologized for the mistakes and miscommunications that resulted in additional charges for both travel time and parking time and assured me that since those were their mistakes he would expedite a credit to my credit card for those items. He also assured me that Local Moving LLC would get my sofa repaired and pay for the repair.

Approximately one week later, he forwarded me a brief email he had with someone that has a Facebook page related to upholstery. When I tried to reach out to this person, the phone number she had listed was instead to an unrelated law firm. After half a dozen emails, the woman responded that the only person she knew that did that type of work was out of the country in Mexico. Almost two weeks and several emails later she let me know that while the person she mentioned had in fact returned to the country, he did not return to work.

I emailed Jacob Bauman and he did not respond. I finally went about finding a repair service and paying for the repairs myself. When I reached out to Mr. Bauman after the repairs had been made, he did respond. He asked me to send him a copy of the receipt for the work that had been done and once again promised to reimburse me for those expenses since Local Moving LLC had caused the damage.

Local Moving LLC promised to reimburse me for additional costs related to travel time and parking. He did not. He promised to find someone who would repair the damage that Local Moving LLC had caused. He did not. He promised to reimburse me for the cost of the repairs that Local Moving LLC had caused. He did not.

What should have been an easy, two-hour move within the same building turned into a more than month long saga that consisted of multiple broken promises and apparent ghosting by the President of Operations for Local Moving LLC that ended up costing me well over twice the price they quoted me and weeks of additional work and time on my part to repair the damage they caused.
