My wife and I love going to Love Moves Us family gatherings. It feels amazing to connect with other foster and adoptive parents. During our discussions with other parents it usually takes no time at all before that sweet feeling of “we’re not alone” comes flooding back. And other parents always have interesting insights and ideas for the issues that we choose to share. Trust-Based Relational Intervention, the parenting model that Love Moves Us teaches, makes all the difference for us in how we care for our children. We feel very strongly that Love Moves Us helps us be better parents and give our children exactly what they need to thrive.
So happy we found Love Moves Us! They have been a great support with families just like ours ❤️ I feel heard and understood in the community and there is always great information given out to think about. Not only that but I get a little adult time and the kids have so much fun!
When you foster or adopt, a community is so important. Your family and friends may be awesome but having other families who truly understand will make a huge difference.
Love moves us is a support group, training, a community, and everything else. They are accepting of all types of families (read lgbtq+). This is a Christian based group, but if this makes you uncomfy, besides one prayer before our meal it really doesn't come up.
Things are starting back up after the pandemic so there are some changes but we gather with other foster/adoptive families and eat (free food!) then children are moved into a separate area so that they can play and learn. Adults then have time to learn and talk and vent and it's so amazing.
This group kept us in foster care when we were this close to giving up our license. Cheryl and Jason who run the group have given us calls or coffee gift cards or dinner or furniture when we've needed it.
I recommend the group to everyone!
If you live in the greater Chicagoland area, you will find this a great support group for those who foster or adopt. It has given my son a sense of belonging. He is 5 and really looks forward to these times when we get together with the group. Dinner and childcare is provided. We have been attending for 3 years now, and even though the logistics looked differently through the pandemic, this is something we all look forward to. The friends we've made walk alongside us through the joys and the sorrows, and I couldn't imagine doing life without them, and for that I'm thankful!
It is so fun for my foster kids! It is a great community full of support and love
