Men On the Move Customer Reviews

Review:

I recently had the pleasure of working alongside the Men on the Move team, and I was incredibly impressed with their professionalism and dedication. Their care in handling belongings was exceptional; they treated every item as if it were their own. Beyond their carefulness, they were remarkably efficient, working quickly and seamlessly as a team. What truly stood out, however, was their positive attitude and friendly demeanor. Jason and his crew were all a pleasure to work with, making the entire moving process smooth and enjoyable. I highly recommend Men on the Move to anyone looking for a top-notch moving experience.

If you’re considering hiring Men on the Move, I feel obligated to share two critical warnings:

1) If you value your belongings, you might want to reconsider your choice.
2) If you do proceed, ensure your items remain in your sight at all times during the move.

Here’s our experience:

We hired Men on the Move for a large relocation from Georgia to Maryland. Initially, the process seemed promising. Conversations with Kasey were pleasant, and our email exchanges were smooth. After much deliberation, we opted to have the company pack our belongings, largely because Kasey explained that self-packed items wouldn’t be covered under their policy. What wasn’t made clear, however, was that this “coverage” only applied to damages occurring during transit. Once the items were in storage—even if loaded carelessly—the company disclaimed responsibility entirely.

Packing day seemed uneventful, as my wife handled most of the process. The movers delivered our items to a storage unit in Maryland on time. Upon their arrival, I generously tipped the crew $300 in cash, a decision I regret given what transpired. When I asked if they needed me to stick around, they assured me they didn’t and said they would call if there were any issues. They never called, so I assumed (wrongly) everything had gone smoothly.

The real nightmare began when we moved our items from storage into our new home, using a different, national moving company. When their crew accessed the storage unit, they immediately contacted us with alarming news. The unit was filled with damaged items—something they described as the worst they’d ever seen. They took over 60 photos documenting the extensive damage, ranging from broken furniture to shattered heirlooms.

Some items damaged are irreplaceable- a family heirloom secretary desk with its antique glass shattered by a carelessly placed jack handle.

Some items damaged can be replaced but at a high cost- a 75” TV improperly stored upright on the storage unit floor, not boxed or wrapped, now unusable due to a large crack.

The process of carefully removing and documenting the broken items by the other moving company significantly increased our moving costs, as it required extra time and effort. The moving crew’s sympathetic response was the only silver lining, contrasting sharply with the dismissive and insulting attitude we later encountered from Men on the Move.

When we presented Men on the Move with our list of damages and photographic evidence, their response was infuriating. They denied responsibility, suggesting we might have accessed the unit ourselves and caused the damage. To add insult to injury, they offered us a mere $250 in compensation—less than the tip I gave their crew.

The irreplaceable nature of some of the damaged items, coupled with the dismissive response from Men on the Move, has left us deeply disappointed and disheartened. While they can technically move items from one location to another, our personal experience shows they cannot do so safely or with care.

If you value your possessions and expect professionalism, I urge you to think twice before hiring this company. For us, their lack of accountability and poor handling of our situation has led to significant emotional and financial loss. We've never been litigious but we will hold Men on the Move accountable for the damages they caused; thankfully, our storage unit has video recordings of access (or lack of access), to show that we did not break our own stuff as was horribly insinuated by them.

Please note that the amount of 1 star reviews they have had over the last 6 months (sort by newest); I certainly wish I had.

This is the worst costumer experience I have ever had. We paid Men on the Move to pack our house, move our items from GA to MD, and unload our belongings into a storage unit. See photos.

Short version:
They broke or damaged nearly all of our furniture and were completely unremorseful and unapologetic about it. They offered us $250 to cover thousands of dollars in damage.

Long version:
After Kasey assured us that Men on the Move has “never broken anything that they packed themselves” and agreeing specifically to wrap and pad our heirloom antique furniture, box up our large Tv, bag up our mattresses, etc, we opened up our storage unit to find nearly all of our furniture either completely broken or damaged in some way. She was right about the things they packed in boxes, which arrived fine, except the boxes that weren’t taped up because they had large items like sound bars spilling out of them. None of the agreements regarding boxing, wrapping, padding, or bagging furniture, tv, mattresses, etc were kept. We found our antique furniture completely unprotected with a pipe from our car jack through the glass and the piece completely misaligned. They broke the plywood in our couch, so now the leg is irreparably bent and can bear no wait. Two of our nightstands splintered into multiple pieces after our two-ton jack was stacked on them in storage. The metal on our daughter’s bed frame was bent beyond repair. The 75” Tv, which they said they would box and didn’t, cracked. They loaded a box that was too wide to fit under our desk under our desk anyway, and the legs bent out and couldn’t be fixed. This is just a highlight of the damages. I could go on.

In addition to replacement a repair costs and the cost of hiring Men on the Move in the first place, we have had to pay out of pocket to have many of these items disposed of, and we had to pay movers in MD $500 extra in labor costs to help us wrap and pad our many broken items to transport them out of the storage unit because they were not wrapped and padded by Men on the Move, despite our agreement with them and having paid them to so those things already. (Eg- wrap our mattresses in plastic bags.)

I contacted Men on the Move right away after seeing how dangerously the men had packed our storage unit, knowing we would find problems. I had no idea how much damage there actually was until we unloaded our stage unit a few weeks later.
I called Kasey to let her know what was going on, and she insisted that I direct all of my concerns to the manager Tiffany. Tiffany said nothing was their problem after it was in the storage unit and asked and I quote, “If you were very concerned about this, why didn’t you take out additional coverage?” They are taking no responsibility for HOW it was loaded into the storage unit by their employees. They made it all fit by smashing it in with no regard for fragility. If we were supposed to take care that nothing was broken before they loaded the storage unit, why did we pay them to pack and load it? They are claiming they don’t have responsibility. Were we supposed to inspect inside every box and every corner of our furniture as it was being unloaded and supervise and direct them as they loaded our storage in into? Then, we would have just rented a truck and taken care of it ourselves.
