Review:

These people are thieves and scam artists and have terrible customer service. Their movers opened my electronics boxes (labeled based on contents) and stole $1000 worth of items. I even tipped them over 20% and bought them lunch. The company then tried to refund me less than 25% of what they stole but only if I promised not to write a review about my experience. They have no sense of customer service and force people to leave them good reviews or they won’t remedy their errors. The only way to get your refund (and less than you’re owed) for YOUR STOLEN ITEMS is to not leave a review. I’m taking this loss to share my horrible experience with others so people don’t fall for these false and purchased reviews. Stay away!!

UPDATE: The company rectified the situation by charging the lowest amount of the initial (non-fraudulent quote). While this is a better outcome, this should have been the first response when the fraud occurred. I cannot change the star rating based of the poor solutions prior to writing a review.

Summary: A signature that was not mine was signed for a much higher amount without my consent.

Initial review: This company committed fraud and up-charged me in the process. A signature was signed by one of their representatives for an up-charged amount for a move and full insurance option. This amount was $1500-2000 more than initially quoted. My signatures do not match this signature and I never gave them permission to sign on my behalf (documents of my signatures and fraudulent signature can be provided). But don’t worry, they sent an email saying they take fraud “very seriously”. They offered to “honor” the lower end of the up-charged price that was fraudulently signed for and a messily $100 compensation for this illegal activity that was committed.

MiniMoves did a thoroughly mediocre job with my move. While things were very positive early on (great communication, very responsive, very helpful with questions), as the move progressed things became increasingly unclear, and I was provided different information from different people regarding when I was going to be charged and what the process for receiving my goods was. Employees seemed generally clueless at times about what was going on, and I was connected with several different people at once, none of whom seemed to take great ownership of my move.

Additionally, one of my items was damaged severely during moving. A table I owned had three of its legs broken and the rest severely damaged. While I commend the claims team for their relatively efficient and reasonable reimbursement for the item, it seems unacceptable to me that the movers damaged such a relatively normal and comparatively easy to move piece of furniture -- I would certainly never trust them to move anything remotely fragile or valuable, and (even though there was no other damage) I suspect the rest of my items took a beating during the move.

Lastly, while I was reimbursed for the cost to replace my damaged item, I was never reimbursed for the actual cost I paid to move the item. As a result I was still charged for MiniMoves to move an item that they ultimately failed to move correctly. The cost to move each individual item is also not itemized, they just give you a blanket number which makes the whole process feel very wishy washy.

All in all, I would not say MiniMoves is malicous in their mistakes, they just have a substantial vein of incompetence running through their company. If you do feel that MiniMoves is your best bet, I would recommend you get every communication from them and a very explicit layout of the plan in writing, plan on documenting the cost of any valuable items carefully in advance and declaring them on your paperwork, and pack as many of your items yourself as you can (packing them as if they were going to be handled by a gorilla). That being said, really good moving companies are pretty nonexistent, so MiniMoves may in fact be the lesser of all the evils.
