Modern Moving

I had a terrible experience with Modern Moving during my recent move from Carmel, IN to Bloomington, IN. Despite hiring them for a full-service move, they failed to complete the job, were unprepared, and showed a lack of professionalism throughout the process.

Key Issues:
-Poor Planning & Incomplete Move: They ran out of space on the moving truck, forcing me to make two extra trips on my own to transport the remaining items. This was only mentioned at the last minute, leaving me with no other options. This is despite a walk-through two days prior to moving as well as a packing job/prep the day before. There was no attempt to provide a second truck. I had to make multiple trips with my car full of items that should have been moved. I had 6 hours of additional driving on my move day to meet a midnight deadline because of this. See pictures of my car packed as an example of one of the trips I had to make.

Lack of Care & Proper Equipment: They did not use floor protection, ran out of packing materials on both packing/prep day and move day, and refused to move fragile items such as Apple Studio Display monitors, my diploma, and a signed basketball, amongst other items, which I had to transport myself.

Furniture Left Unassembled: Despite disassembling and reassembling other beds, they refused to properly handle my son’s toddler bed, and left my wife’s mirrored vanity completely unassembled, requiring me to find additional help as it requires a second person.

Unprofessional Team: They did not bring the right tools to unmount my TV, forcing me to solve the issue myself. They also hesitated to disassemble furniture to fit through doorways, causing unnecessary delays.

Zero Customer Service: Since the move, I have called and emailed multiple times, but they have completely ignored all attempts to resolve these issues.

The kicker is that all of this wonderful service was over $1,200 over the highest end estimate provided by Modern Moving after their walk-through. They were also pressuring me into paying cash instead of using a card - the payment preference was never discussed in any prior conversations including during the walk-through.

I strongly recommend avoiding Modern Moving if you expect a stress-free, professional move. They failed at basic moving responsibilities and left me with a half-finished job and extra work. If you’re looking for reliability and accountability, look elsewhere.

The three movers that helped me were fantastic! I couldn't be happier with the service they provided. They were quick and efficient. The movers were personable and extremely patient with me. They moved me from a 1 bedroom unit to a 2 bedroom unit in less than 4 hours! Run don't walk to book Modern Moving!

All of my furniture was in the exact condition it was upon pickup and there were no issues with my smaller items being broken.
