We had a move with very challenging logistics parameters. We were downsizing and several items were destined to storage in a place 50 miles from our new home. In addition we had household items stored in a location 180 miles from our home. Some of those items were destined for storage as well. To top it off we had three vehicles shipped into storage.

Everything worked perfectly. Stored items were picked up and sorted according to destination (new home or new storage), cars were picked up and delivered into storage, and household items from the old home were sorted according to destination (new home or new storage). Over a five day period everything came together as planned by Jon Warner at Bekins NW. The crew was led by an experienced professional, Rick Kraus, and his helpers (11 in four locations - old storage, old home, new home, new storage) were hard-working and courteous. We could not have asked for better service than we received from Bekins NW.

Review:

I recently used Bekins Northwest Moving for a move from Washington to Arizona, and the experience was very disappointing. Initially, the company was extremely helpful and promised to keep me updated throughout the process. However, I found myself constantly asking for updates and information. When the movers arrived to pick up my belongings, they mishandled several items aggressively, causing scratches and dents in my doorways, which I had to repair because I was selling my home. They wrapped and unwrapped my couch several times, leaving the cushions scattered. It took several reminders to make sure they were included.

After my items were loaded into the truck, I had to keep asking about delivery windows and times. When my belongings arrived, the movers stated that they had been working for the previous 72 hours and were exhausted (which was unexpected). During delivery, I asked if the couch cushions, which I had repeatedly reminded them not to lose at pick-up, were included as they unloaded because they were not with the couch, and the movers assured me that everything was there. After they finished unloading, I asked if the intake sheet matched the delivery, but they said a final delivery receipt was not required. After the movers left, I discovered several items missing, including the cushions, when I went through my belongings after the movers had left and subsequently filed a claim against the move insurance.

Shortly thereafter, the movers who delivered my items called my cell phone to ask why I had filed a claim for missing items, saying it was impossible and would reflect poorly on them (which I found inappropriate). After a month of waiting to see if the missing items could be found and receive a response on the claim, Bekins Northwest Moving/United Van Lines informed me that because the delivery was completed and the items were accepted, they could not reimburse me and had to deny my claim. After waiting another month for the claim to be re-reviewed, I was told that again 'nothing could be done” because the delivery was accepted.

Bekins Northwest is owned and operated by United Van Lines, so read their reviews to find out what to expect (I wish I had). If you still choose to hire Bekins after conducting research, I recommend:

Document your item pickup/delivery process from beginning to end.

Before accepting delivery, open each item/box to ensure that it is delivered undamaged.

Having moved cross-country several times, this company is hands down the worst I've ever encountered, with no accountability for their actions.
