ZERO STARS.
Absolutely HORRIBLE. Do not trust this company to move your belongings. They damaged EVERY SINGLE ITEM THEY MOVED for me in a local move (11 miles) on 23rd September 2024. THEY ARE NOT PROFESSIONALS.
I contacted NorthStar specifically because I needed assistance disassembling and reassembling a piece of large furniture in addition to moving the usual living, dining, bedroom, office, and kitchen items—all of which are antique and delicate. When the three guys showed up, they advised that they were aware of the need to disassemble and reassemble the large piece and would take care doing so. I advised them that it was important how they disassembled it completely and I provided guidance on how to do this. They proceeded to disregard my instructions and moved the furniture without fully disassembling it. They labeled nothing and took no photos. Which, of course, led to causing serious damage. Later, when they attempted to reassemble what they did take apart, which caused further damage when they put it together completely wrong—I had to take it apart and redo it all—of course, they scratched, dented, and chipped the antique walnut wood in SEVERAL PLACES in the process of failing to put it together correctly.
Further, they did not wrap delicate wood furniture in any protective layer, like a blanket, before stacking the pieces into their truck and driving them 11 miles while the furniture rubbed and dug into each other. They simply stacked wood on top of each other and now all of my dining chairs have spots where the finish has been burnt off, down to the raw wood. ALL of my dining chairs must be refinished now from their original 1950s finish. At least these can be repaired with thousands extra of dollars spent, while the dents and scratches in my credenza, bed frame, dining table, wall unit, etc., cannot be. Permanent damage to antiques.
Additionally, several times I caught them laughing after pulling furniture in and out of the elevator and ramming my items against walls and doors. “Oops! Hahaha!” The resulting damage can’t be hidden.
Further, multiple times I walked out to the truck to find them standing around and chatting. They may have done a total of three hours of work destroying my furniture, but I was charged for six.
You must supervise every single thing that this company does if you hire these people. They do not care about your stuff. They will, however, also steal your stuff. I provided two moving blankets which they took with them at the end; when I contacted them to return the blankets, they gave me a runaround and never returned my items.
TRASH SERVICE. DO NOT TRUST THEM.
Avoid NorthStar Moving – They Stole From Me!
I wish I could give NorthStar Moving zero stars. My recent move with them turned into an absolute nightmare. Not only were they careless and disorganized, but they stole one of my boxes containing high-end items worth thousands of dollars. The box included luxury clothing, electronics, and irreplaceable personal items—things I had collected over years.
From the start, their lack of professionalism was clear. They didn’t bother counting my boxes, which should have been a basic step for any moving company. As someone moving into a high-rise, I trusted them to handle the process and assumed they'd be accountable for my belongings. Unfortunately, that trust was completely misplaced.
In hindsight, I should have checked the truck thoroughly before they left, but it’s clear now that NorthStar Moving took advantage of the situation. A moving company should ensure the safe transport of your belongings—not become the reason they go missing. What’s worse is that when I contacted them to address the issue, they offered no help or resolution. They brushed me off as if my missing items were no big deal. It’s infuriating to experience such blatant disregard for my concerns and for my property.
This company’s actions are not just unprofessional—they're criminal. Their lack of accountability and care shows they’re not interested in customer satisfaction, only in taking your money and, in my case, your possessions too.
If you're considering using NorthStar Moving, think again. They’re unreliable at best and thieves at worst. Don’t let what happened to me happen to you. Stay far away from this company if you value your possessions and your peace of mind. The box was worth 7k and they refunded me the cost of the move. So I wanted to update. I still wouldn't use them and that's that. Review updated
Updated Review: 3/5 stars - I changed my review as, after speaking with NorthStar and voicing my frustrations, the company was able to reimburse me in addition to my insurance payout.
Original Review: 1/5 stars - I recently used NorthStar. I am disappointed and angry with the low quality of the move given how expensive and highly rated NorthStar is. This move did not match the astronomical price tag ($2000+) nor did I have the positive experience represented on NorthStar's public reviews. I feel duped and taken advantage of.
My sofa was broken, some my shoes were destroyed because they were haphazardly thrown into a box, some of my kitchen seasonings were packed properly while others were not resulting in those packed poorly spilling over and me having to throw out nearly $100 worth of seasonings, my living room TV stand is broken, and the movers mislabeled boxes and made unpacking hard and confusing. For example, boxes were labeled 'Bedroom,' but had kitchen supplies in them. Lastly, hardware was missing from one of my beds, so I can't assemble or sell the bed.
Northstar was so fantastic!! Robert Hose and Benjamin got my big move done flawlessly and speedy! They were friendly and efficient. Will definitely use this company next time I move!
