Review:

Terrible experience. They lied when they said they deliver anywhere in the US. I had to drive 10 hours to the pods facility and back in order to get my belongings and had to pay an additional $3000 for U-Haul truck rental, mileage, gas and laborers because they refused to deliver my pods to my house after I was told they serviced the area I was moving to. Save yourself some money, time and duress by hiring a full service moving company. It will still cost less and you probably won’t have a heart attack when it’s time to get your possessions back.

I am a Navy Veteran who has moved multiple times and recently moved again for work. My wife diligently reviewed options for moving and being as it was a long distance move from Michigan to Maine she seemed confident after speaking to the team at PODS. PODS even shared with her some movers that were affiliated with PODs to help with some of our heavier furniture. Hands down the worst experience we have ever had moving and we moved during the COVID pandemic. The PODs affiliated movers that arrived in Michigan to pack and move our furniture were essentially two random men with zero experience and zero training. The movers did not have uniforms unless Cheeze-It fleece pajamas and a crew neck in June is the required uniform. Cheez-It was unable to lift a bureau with his partner and the team did not have equipment which prevented the bureau from being moved without damage to the house and potentially loss of security deposit. We made the decision to leave the bureau as to not risk further damage to the house. The PODs affiliated movers packed the POD so poorly, we were forced to order a second POD and our departure to Maine was delayed two days. Hotel rooms, meals and an extra POD were added expenses to our PODs experience that we did not plan for. PODs customer service was more than happy to charge us for a second POD. The second POD was confirmed to arrive between 7:15 am and 10:15 am on Monday morning. It wasn’t until my wife contacted PODs customer service as the POD had not arrived that PODs decided to say the time window now changed to 3:15 pm-5:15 pm with zero notification. This delay caused another night in a hotel, as we didn’t get on the road until after 6. We also had to take extra time off from work due the latest delay. The second POD did not come with a lock so we used a brand new lock of our own and locked the POD. Yesterday the second POD arrived with a different lock on the POD. We called customer service and my wife was connected to three different customer service agents who could not explain why our lock was replaced with a combination lock which PODs did not provide a combination. Magically the fourth customer service agent found a note that was mysteriously was missed by the other three agents that said our brand new lock was not fastened properly and PODs had to replace with a new lock. Once again no notification from PODs and the mysterious note now included a combination for the lock that of course did not work. After a 45 minute round of try this combination no try this one, wait no this one, it was determined by PODs customer service that would need to cut the lock with bolt cutters. Wouldn’t you know my wife’s bolt cutters were in the locked POD. Customer service said they would escalate and have PODs team member come out and remove the lock. Not so fast, today PODs followed up and stated they will not come out. So today I will buy a second set of bolt cutters to cut the lock that we didn’t approve and unpack the POD we didn’t need to finally two weeks later complete our move.

PODs if this is how you treat customers you should really be ashamed of yourselves. Your company and it’s employees provided poor customer service, terrible time management and ended up costing my wife and I countless time and money. Shameful that is how you treat people and as a Navy Veteran I am disgusted with your company.

This Pods location is awesome! We moved from about 2,000 miles away and it was such a good experience moving with Pods. Shawn at the warehouse helped us get our Pod delivered quickly which was a blessing as it had our only air conditioner in it and the summer heat was insane. Cory, the delivery driver, was just about the most pleasant person I have ever had an interaction with and he delivered the pod super quickly and exactly where we had asked. Overall I highly recommend using this Pods location to move if you are in the Portland area.
