I recently had the pleasure of hearing Moira Brennan speak about Senior Settlers: Her Bay Area company specializing in senior citizen's relocation or downsizing needs.
Whether you have been through this or not, one can easily imagine the incredibly daunting process of moving a senior family member to a new home or senior care community.
I wouldn’t even know where to begin to move an elder in my family, given the emotional stress on top of the logistics.

This is a very service oriented, collaborative, common sense company providing many services including relocation, downsizing, de-clutter, organization, simplification, sort & move, and settling in to a new location. They work collaboratively with the whole family, with enormous respect and kindness, to sort belongings and memories from clutter.
She will ask a new client, “What is the hardest thing for you in this process? Let us do that for you!' For example, if there is a roomful of your older person’s papers to go through, Moira’s team will whittle them down to 3 boxes of important papers. I was amazed and reassured to learn that Moira and her team will also sell, donate, ship, and remove items no longer needed or wanted from the premises.
It’s not surprising that clients will call back years later for help with the next transition in their family, and I will be calling Senior Settlers when the need arises in mine.

Unpacked boxes were piled up in my apartment. I felt as if I was living in a storage shed. I had been ill and in and out of the hospital for almost a year. Because of my health, I hadn’t been able to finish unpacking. My friends had helped me initially, but as time wore on, they became tied up with their elderly parents, their jobs and their own ill health. I knew I needed help. That’s where Senior Settlers came in.

I first met with Moira, company owner, to discuss my needs. Moira sent Tammy, a very patient soul, to finish the project. Tammy unpacked every single box and I made quick decisions on the fate of each item. I already knew that I wanted to donate most things, so it was easy to simply say, “donate,” or “throw away.” Tammy would separate the donated items from trash. At the end of our work sessions, she would make everything thing disappear by hauling it out to the on-site dumpster or by contact professional hauler, Dre, who would take items to local charities and second hand stores. I saw immediate progress from our first session.

I especially liked how Tammy was willing to accommodate me in this process. On one work session, she carried boxes into my bedroom, so I could make decisions from my bed. At another session, I became ill and had to leave for an emergency doctor visit. She continued working after I left, so Dre could haul away items from that day’s session. Progress was made even without my presence.

I heartily recommend Senior Settlers for anyone facing a transition, be it moving or simply wanting to downsize. You will be met with compassion as well as good, quick service.
