Despite some quirkiness with the company website, billing notifications and storage boxes, I was nonetheless overall satisfied with the price and service. The storage boxes I received had misfitting latches and were missing some velcro. The fact the boxes were made of wood made the latch operation dependent on the leveling of the boxes (which took some time). I ended up having to reposition/fix the latches to get the boxes to close properly. I was a little dubious about storing our furniture and memories at first. That being said, the boxes sat in rain and snow and were subject to much wind (for 5 months) with no damage to the contents (except for a few ladybugs). Some of this protection was no doubt due to the vinyl wrap around the boxes. The velcro holding the wrap was in need of repair/replacement, but was sufficent. The drop-off and pick-up of the boxes was fine. The driver was courteous and careful. The driver was good about calling before pick-up, which was good because my boxes were twice scheduled to be picked-up before I was done with them. When it was time to really pick them up, it was done on time and within only a couple of days (with no additional charge). Paying through the website had some issues, but I was able to reach customer service (via phone) and straighten the issue. The ladies I spoke with in customer service were pleasant and accomodating. This is a franchise, so I am sure that experience will vary, but I would consider using Smartbox (serving the Brighton, MI area) again.
I had three boxes that were supposed to be delivered July 13th and they were not delivered until September 1st - over 7 weeks late. In July, the company repeatedly told me that the boxes would be delivered the 'next day' or the 'next week' - after this happened several times with no delivery, I got in touch with the local warehouse who confirmed that our boxes has never even been delivered to their warehouse. After calling the national line multiple times and multiple days with no update, they informed us that our boxes had been delivered to the wrong warehouse but they did not know where our boxes were. It took almost a month for them to locate our boxes and then two weeks for them to get delivered. Throughout, Smartbox was not proactive in providing updates, requiring hours and hours on the phone with them and they frequently did not have updates. While the frontline customer service staff was very friendly, supervisors and leadership were impossible to reach and did not seem to be taking my case very seriously. Overall, I never use Smartbox again and never recommend them to anyone.
Lady on phone act like she didn't know what she was doing rude and telling me I have to wait a whole month before they can pick up empty box which I will have to pay for that month that it sits in my driveway empty asked to speak with supervisor was told she was busy and will tell me samething very unhappy
Their prices for storage are really excellent, but to set up a drop off and pick up time definitely takes longer than the two days they tell you. I think, that the man that does the drop off and pick up needs a new truck because it's constantly seems to be breaking down when you need them to bring or drop off your belongings
