As a retired executive from a Fortune 500 company I was relocated no less than 7 times during my career. Moving can be a very stressful event but my wife and I became accustomed to having our prized possessions handled with superior care. Over our 42 years of marriage we have been fortunate to inherit irreplaceable family heirlooms that we dearly love and cherish. When I first met Sarah from Smith Dray (AshevilleCandler office) she assured me that our move would be handled by one of their two very best drivers. We felt reassured when she later informed us that Farris ,a local western NC driver ,had been assigned to us. The move occurred in July and as we continue our methodical unpacking in our new home we can without question report that has been a complete and total disaster. As of this date we can report that we have had 8 legs cracked or completely broken off of furniture. A marble topped dresser was broken in two by careless handling even after my wife reminded Farris and his team to be especially careful with that item. The overall damage has been distressing and has brought my wife to tears several times as she continues to review the aftermath of this move. I am not sure whether this is my last move but it certainly is my last with Smith Dray- Atlas Moving Company.
After reading Smith Dray's response I can only say that I am not surprised by the pathetic finger pointing and their not accepting any blame. I would like to note to readers that I am not in any way seeking to file a claim or receive any monetary remuneration....my only purpose is to alert other potential customers of SD as to their poor customer service.

Thought I would post an update on this terrible situation...As we continue to unload from our storage unit, as of now we have had 15 pieces of furniture that have had to be repaired...Farris and his team really did a number on us. Please please use caution when deciding whether to use this team for your next move.....

Friendly, helpful and pretty quick
Poor service, understaffed, HORRIBLE management. The lead mover on the crew complained the entire time about everything and was argumentative - VERY unprofessional. They failed to crate large, important items, such as a marble table (which broke), king mattress (which they folded over and tied like a sandwich), family heirlooms (which were damaged) and so forth. The manager, Joel Gillespie, never bothered to personally respond to any of our complaints - a complete lack of leadership and epitome of unprofessional behavior. I DO NOT recommend this company!
