Warning: Your property, valuables, & precious keepsakes may NOT be secure.
Our Socastee, SC unit was broken into 5/2024 by a thief, who we believe crawled in thru the gap between the wall and ceiling. The thief carefully opened boxes and tore-open bags without leaving a mess as to not draw attention to its presence. Most likely, we would not have even known our unit was breached if we were just quickly dropping-off items rather than picking-up a few specific items for our business, which were missing.
We called the police, filed a report and started the long, miserable process of trying to make ourselves whole again. SpareBox’s management dragged their feet and their insurance company (Cornerstone) did, too, in order to avoid accepting responsibility and pay the claim. The most popular excuse was “I’m waiting for *** to return my call”. One troubling note, the police officer working our case reported that SpareBox’s manager said, “This is not the first time it has happened here.”
Long story short…. Sparebox was negligent by leaving the neighboring unit unlocked and wide-open, which allowed the thief access to our unit. Sparebox was of no help in assisting the police by not returning their calls or assisting insurance company settle our claim. Lastly, the insurance company (Cornerstone) will use any means necessary to deny claims including insinuating fraud on our part by filing a false claim, which was hugely inflammatory & insulting. Our claim was denied over 6 months later. Unbelievable!
Note to current renters: I strongly urge you to carefully check your unit and its belongings. Look for opened boxes & bags, and items out of place. We had many of our belongings wrapped in plastic bags to protect it from SC’s humidity & moisture. In our case, the thief ripped-opened MANY of those bags then carefully discarded the bags in the rear of the unit behind furniture as to not draw attention. Look for scuff marks on the walls and or furniture leaning against the wall. Take pics of your unit & belongings after you have moved-in and keep a detailed inventory of each item for future reference if needed.

Your price is going to go up every 3 to 6 months and for no reason at all , The mandatory Insurance ? It is actually them taking your money claiming to be the insurance,, The free automated pay by phone take your information. It doesn’t actually process it so you end up a late charges and if you pay by an agent, that’s an extra $12 fee.,, They’re paid by phone system Of which is supposed to be free has been reported month after month after month and they still don’t fix it,, So if you rent it and you’re thinking you have a fixed amount, you can count on Being charged? Think again, I don’t recommend them
