Update: My son also had a unit there. When he moved out in August 2024 he found that his unit had also been robbed. He lost 75% of what he had stored. Didn't even bother to report it as they do nothing and the facility has recently been taken over by a new company. Security is no better and the place is very rundown. Stay away!

We received a text this afternoon stating that our unit was found to not have a lock on it so they put on a temporary lock and advised us to replace it with our own lock ASAP.. Being concerned, we went there immediately to find that our unit had been broken into and more than half of our stored items were stolen. I called Red Dot and I felt that the representative was more concerned that we return their lock to the drop box than the fact that we were robbed. He indicated that other units had also been broken into. He advised us to report this to North Aurora police and our Homeowners Insurance. There are no on site employees and a major lack of surveillance at this facility. The customer service representatives are unfriendly and seem to care less when you call them. We reported a man who appeared to be sleeping in a van parked outside of our building several months ago in the winter. The van was up on blocks and missing the front wheels. It was there for weeks. Months later he appeared to be working out of his storage unit and tapping into the facility's electricity with extension cords. He also had old appliances stored outside of his unit. We reported him on those two ocassions. It appeared that the electrical outlet was disabled later but the man remained there working/living out of his unit. This was rather disturbing.
Poor management at this facility.
