Used to be great, now it is a prison without services.
I have been at this location for 5 years, and what attracted me to the facility was location, environmentally controlled, 24hr access and reasonable pricing.
All but location has changed for the worse, and continues to go down a dark a path.
The HVAC is a mess. It is supposed be guaranteed to be between 50-80 degrees, but is never close. They intentionally place the thermostats 12+ feet in the air so they register the warm air above, while the temperature is very cold (45 or less) between 1ft and 10 feet, where all your precious items are stored.
The new building is a mess because the HVAC units are undersized, and were placed at 14 feet above, and with NO ductwork, so all hot air is dispersed near the heating unit, but never directed anywhere else, specifically the storage units. They recently installed ceiling mounted fans that are approx 24' diameter and a do NOTHING because they are a fraction of the size required to move air in an open space that size.
Management blames the car port door opening and allowing the cold air to rush in - well duh, no kidding. That's why the furnace should not be mounted at the door with no ductwork, and the thermostats should be moved - not rocket science! Additionally, the door stays open for 90 seconds - ridiculous again!
Management recently decided to rescind 24hr access - not so great for those working shifts that are not 9-5, additionally, there was no good reason for it, just because. That feature was a reason why many came to this facility and they took it ways from everyone, no grandfathering, no contractual cares - screw the customer.
Pricing has increased over 22% in the past several years. Though many things have increased in price, their primary reasoning was that their expansion project went over budget and they needed to tap the customers to foot the bill - they actually mentioned this in an email, but not so crassly.
Don't use any of the exits on the outside of the buildings because you can no longer re-enter, even though there is a keypad to register your entry, and in a securely fenced-in area. Nope, it has become too dangerous to step outside to take a private call or to have a sandwich. Access that was common sense through those doors, using your storage ID and passcode have been revoked, as if this is elementary school.
Prop open a door and all hell breaks loose because some theoretical passer by may jump the security fence and enter the building even though they have no ID or passcode to open the door - that doesn't make any sense.
Water and roof issues have shown themselves in the new building. It is as if nobody has a clue how to manage a construction project there. There are no floor drains, even where the cars carrying snow and slush park, so the snow melts while parked and slowly creeps under the storage doors if the maintenance guy doesn't keep an eye on things. The concrete slopes down towards the storage unit and not away—again, project management issues.
The new maint guy does his job very well, but I cannot vouch for management. Marcy is a nice person, but she and the management crew do not understand customer service and how to retain clients - NO is always their first answer, followed by 'Why do you need that?'.
They previously permitted customers to use the dumpster, and that was a selling point they made, until contractors disposed of items not permitted, and idiots left couches at one of the Pittsburgh locations. They were not held accountable, but the honest were. STORExpress' solution: clients no longer have access and cannot even dispose of a cardboard box at the facility—what a farce. Try doing any business from your storage location like that.
I CANNOT recommend this place until they make drastic changes for the better, and I and 6-8 others are looking to get out. Most of us rent at least two units each.
We recently used their storage to temporarily keep out household goods while we were in transition. Marcy at the Murrysville Store was outstanding. She helped us select the right unit size, facilitated our moves, and was very responsive to our questions. I strongly recommend using this storage company.
Marcy over here at STORExpress Murrysville has been super kind and super sweet. She has reassured me, that my items would be protected and safe. She was able to give me a move in discount that helped back in March, 2024. She gave me a sense of relief and always has a smile on her face whenever not just myself, but with anyone that walks in through those doors. She gives the best customer service and the place is clean and organized!
Insurance claims are very shady. Rented 4 units for around a year and paid for insurance each month. A mouse ate 2 holes in our loveseat, 1 on the arm rest and one on a cushion. We filed a claim with the front office, but found out it was never sent to the insurance company. Filed the claim again and I did get a claim # and telephone # to an overseas insurance company, but it’s been over a year and I still haven’t heard from anyone. Store express front office personal keep giving us the runaround.
Update signed paperwork for insurance claim. Front desk said we would receive payment within 10 days. August 22 and no check yet, still getting the runaround.
Update august 23 more runaround today. Won’t even give us a number to contact insurance company ourselves. Front desk said there was someone in the office and said she had to hang up, but she would check into it. More runaround. Going to call corporate office and BBB.
Great experience. Marcy was always so happy and helpful! Will definitely recommend to anyone that needs a storage unit!
