Had a great experience with TriStar! Austin H was the crew lead and was working with Charles and Damarius on their team. They were professional, personable, and took great care of our family’s items in our move. They made the move so much easier and worry-free. We’re grateful and would recommend!
We just finished our second move with Tri-Star moving! The team arrived on time, asked good questions, and got to work quickly. They protected the home, our doors, floors, stairwells, very well for the ins and outs of everything. We had a few hiccups later in the day with the process, but as soon as we communicated with management, the issues were addressed far more than was expected and they wrapped up our experience wonderfully just as they did with our first move. Moves are lot and things rarely go as smoothly as you hope - but Tri-star has now twice shown that they will do what needs to be done to end the experience positively for all - that is all we can ask. Highly recommend this team - and while we hope not to move anytime soon, we'll definitely be calling them again when the time comes. 5 stars.
Second time using these guys. First time 3 years ago there were no issues which led to the return business.
Paid for them to pack and move all my belongings. Don’t have too many complaints for the moving services itself but the packing job was pretty laughable for what we paid. Many items were broken, luckily most were everyday replaceable pieces but some sentimental items were also mishandled even after explicitly asking for special care. Even in the boxes where things weren’t broken, the lack of effort made us scratch our heads. Live plants shoved in a box with random houseware on top. Clean linens shoved on top of plungers.
Overall I spent just shy of $10k on these guys after tipping and I feel like a chump
Anthony and Josh were amazing yesterday during our move. They were professional and showed great leadership. They were very friendly and mindful of me and my wife’s belongings. I would definitely want them in charge of my next move! Thanks again for your hard work!
By far the most unethical & unprofessional moving company I've ever encountered. This was the 11th time I've ever hired movers & the worst experience I've had by far. Call Black Tie Moving or literally anyone else. If you've already had the misfortune of using Tri-Star, bank disputes; BBB, state attorney general, & FTC complaints; & class action lawsuits can be helpful when dealing with the likes of this terrible excuse for a business.
Tri-Star gave me a vastly inaccurate estimate despite having all of the information they needed in order to provide an accurate one. The subject lines of the emails their consultant, MaryEmily, sent regarding this were, 'Gaining an Accurate Estimate,' which Tri-Star failed miserably to do then left me holding the bag for their many shortcomings. As a result, I was charged hundreds of dollars more- approximately 65% more time- than I should have been per the estimate they provided.
When the movers, CJ & Corey, finished loading the truck, they announced that they would take a lunch break before proceeding to the unload destination. This was certainly a first; I had never had a moving team leave for some unknown lunch location with a truck full of my property & me nowhere around. Beyond inappropriate as a business practice. Tri-Star had preemptively added a $100 surcharge for a piece of fitness equipment the crew members ultimately did not move; CJ assured me that the charge would be removed before I paid & that I also would not be billed during their break.
When the movers arrived at the unload destination an hour later, one or both of them smelled strongly of marijuana; a friend & I both noticed the odor as soon as they got out of the truck. They worked extremely slowly during the unload process, with 10- to 15-minute gaps between trips into the home. They inexplicably removed protective moving blankets from a cream-colored suede sofa before bringing it into the home. It was a tight fit to get it through the door, which was the entire point of taking time I paid for to wrap it to begin with, & they positioned themselves in such a way that one of them was outside the door pushing on it while the other was inside pulling on it to get it inside. As a result, the sofa was pressed hard & dragged against the door frame & a hinge, resulting in a large black grease smear & white paint transfer onto it. Cosmetically, the sofa was destroyed.
Only after the movers left was I sent an invoice showing that I had in fact been charged not only the $100 surcharge for the fitness equipment they didn't move but also $87.50 for their lunch break. Other reviewers have also complained about being charged during the movers' lunch breaks after Tri-Star assured them they wouldn't be, so it seems likely that the company commonly tells customers they won't be charged during this time then intentionally charges them for it anyway, knowing that most customers won't review their invoices carefully enough to catch the overcharge.
Highlights and quotes from my correspondence with Tri-Star Moving manager Austin Pate:
1. It's acceptable for movers to spend time vaping while a customer is being charged $165/hour. Austin can tell from camera footage whether a vape holds nicotine or marijuana.
(Read- if you want: everything you own to reek of cigarette smoke &/or marijuana; to risk injury, property damage, or worse caused by movers who seem to be under the influence; &/or to spend hundreds of dollars on movers' smoke breaks, Tri-Star has you covered.)
2. Heat & 'working days straight' are acceptable reasons to make a 'dumb decision' & 'careless mistakes.' They 'probably' won't let it happen again.
3. Austin considers walking away with only a destroyed sofa 'a pretty good move.'
Unfortunately, I can't relay the full extent of my nightmare experience with Tri-Star Moving within Google's character limit. Stay tuned for my upcoming TikTok series, where I'll share the entire dumpster fire story in all its ugly glory, complete with screenshots & other receipts
Avoid Tri-Star Moving at all costs.
