U-Haul Moving & Storage of Columbia Falls

I have been renting a unit for the past 6 months with no issues. Great communication, awesome location.

Used Red Meadow storage for 7 months. I wanted to like them because the location is convenient but in the end they charged me a months worth of storage for an empty unit when they certainly didn't need to, as well as some kinks in their operation led me to leave this review.

1. They require a 30-day notice for a move-out. If you don't give them 30 days you get charged for an additional month. Yes, it is in the contract but...really? Why do this? 90% of the units are empty so it's not like they have a waiting list or are missing out on revenue. Thus, I see it as a tactic to generate extra income from un-knowing customers. I would guess most every one of their customers end up paying the final month for an empty unit.

2. issues with payment. I was charged for 2 months on one of my payments. Called and spoke to someone who said they would re-credit my card, which didn't happen. So i called again and they fixed the issue (and gave me 30$ credit) but it was a bit of a pain and they ended up taking my money for the unused month anyways.

3. Break-ins. I was notified that someone broke into some of the units. Yes, they have a gate and barb wire and bad things happen but I was very glad I had a disc-lock on my unit. Do not put a small lock on and expect to keep your unit safe

4. Communication. They never answer the phone when you call, so you have to wait for a call-back. Not a big issue unless you can't get into the gate (happened to me) and leave only to get a call back later when it could be too late to access your unit

5. Everyone I spoke to was professional and nice

Its a decent option for a storage unit, but the last month, 30-day notice policy is predatory and frankly completely un-necessary. I could understand if they had a waiting list and were missing out on revenue instead of just generating extra income. They should have waived this fee.
