They would not rent me the truck I had reserved when I arrived onsite. Instead, they treated me like I was going to steal it and demanded the name and phone number of a third-party to help track me down should I run off with their truck. I’ve rented u-hauls for decades, never experienced this before.

I went down the street to a non-U-Haul company, and they rented a truck to me without this info and with no problems whatsoever. They even included a free handtruck.

Privacy matters, as does decent customer service. Put GPS trackers in them, rely on law-enforcement like everyone else does, or take a deposit. But don’t treat your customers like they they’re presumed guilty when I’m certain the vast number of them return trucks just as they’re supposed to.

U- haul usually provides a mixed experience. If I had other options I would choose a
different business. This time they were not open when I arrived and had to wait 15 minutes, meanwhile my movers were waiting on me. I was charged for gas even though it was very clear from the visual gauge that it was filled appropriately. If the visual given to customers isn't accurate, it needs to be changed. Once there returning the truck, you're at their mercy to decide what they deem correct. Why offer the visual aid if staff determines what they want whether it's correct or not?
In summary, as usual, uhaul gives me what I need, but I always leave frustrated. If I could find another option, I would choose it.
