Everything went well with my ubox until it was time to have them delivered. I scheduled to have them delivered on Monday, 8/14 because that was the only day that worked for me. It was confirmed two weeks in advance. Then 2 business days before they were set to arrive, I got a call saying that they would not able to fulfill that promise and my options were to have them delivered on Saturday or Tuesday. Neither of those days worked for me. I couldn't have them delivered early because I wasn't allowed; the house wasn't mine yet. I needed them on Monday and Monday only because I closed on my house and I needed to move in that day! If they were delivered on Tuesday, then I'd have to wait until the following weekend to move in, but my lease was over on my temporary house, so I HAD to move in on Monday. The people I spoke to about this were extremely unsympathetic towards the situation. They just continued to say Saturday or Tuesday, your pick. Then they cancelled the delivery all together because I said neither of those days work. So my only option was to pick them up myself. I arranged to have a truck from another company because I was so angry with U-Haul, I did not want to give them another cent. They then tried telling me I HAD to rent a U-Haul truck in order to take the boxes, which is simply not true. When I loaded them, I had a moving company pick the boxes up with their trucks; they were not U-Haul trucks. So they were just giving me a hard time for no reason at this point. I had a box truck, so I wasn't trying to tow with an SUV or anything. I was trying to tow with a vehicle meant to tow. I called U-Haul's general customer service line and she told me that any truck that can tow would be fine. On the day I arrived to pick up my boxes, the Lodi location continued to lie and say no, you can't take them with another truck.
They finally gave in after another call to corporate customer service, but they didn't even have the boxes loaded on the trailer and we arrived at 11:50 for a 12pm pick up (this pick up time was prearranged and confirmed the morning of, they were supposed to be loaded and ready to go at 12). We proceeded to wait 2 hours for them to get loaded on the trailer and 'secured.' When we got back to our house the ratchet strap just fell off while still in motion. We were so lucky it fell off in our driveway and not on the highway going 60mph. It literally could've killed someone. We wasted such an unnecessary amount of time due to their incompetence. We could only take two boxes to start, and they said that we couldn't take the third if we came back after 3:30. So at this point we had 1.5 hours to unload two boxes worth of stuff, and drive round trip back to this place. We pleaded with them to please stay late because it was simply not our fault that we couldn't accomplish unloading two boxes in that short of a window when they were the ones who were late getting it ready. We hurried and got back to the facility at 4:15, and they absolutely refused to let us take our third box. Which is forcing us to rent a truck AGAIN on Saturday so that we can get our final things. And we'll probably be charged another month of rent in the meantime.
This was absolutely the worst customer service I have ever received and the general manager absolutely needs to be reprimanded for this gross incompetence! She was literally just trying to make our life hard by saying we couldn't use another company's truck. It's not part of U-Haul's policy, she just decided to be mean that day because she could.
They refunded my money. Problem resolved.
Screwed me out of $25 for gas. I calculated my miles traveled vs. gallons I put in. If they are correct I got 5 mpg. 15' truck, on flat roads, and very light load. Impossible! Figures don't lie. They read the gas gauge wrong at pickup, not me. Following up with corporate.
