U-Haul Moving & Storage of McKinleyville

Set a reservation for a storage and for a specific size and the day of my reservation was told that size I put on hold isn’t available..Had to find another storage place, better prices elsewhere too.

The owner and manager at this location, Dale, was verbally abusive to his subordinates, dismissive of and rude to customers, and generally an A$$hole during two different visits recently. While I don't expect amazing outcomes while dealing with Uhaul, his behavior was beyond the pale.

I have had some pretty awful uhaul experiences in the past, (even in my process of this last move), but the people at this UHAUL location in particulary are the friendliest uhaul represantives I have ever encountered. Quick phone service and helpful answering all of my questions.

Where to start. First nobody could tell me how much my van rental would cost after renting for 1 month. They just kept saying I didn't have to worry about it because it was 'the best rate guarantee'. Eventually the manger Travis said it would be .49 cents a mile, but the next day when I turned the van in they charged me .79 cents a mile and the manager was nowhere to be found. My next rental they charged me a cleaning fee when I cleaned the inside like instructed. Worst of all Jefthro (spell check) charged me over 1 thousand dollars for scratches that were in the inside before I got it!! I didn't even move anything that could have scratched then van!! They printed me up a receipt that looked fake, it didn't say U Haul anywhere on it and charges were not showing up in the app or online or when I called u Haul customer services. After being over charged $1,500 I am pretty upset and I will be reporting them to the police and taking this to court.
It's worth mentioning there are some really nice and cool employees here, but it's not worth the risk. Rent from the Eureka U Haul or Penske.

If I could give negative stars here then I would. They claimed that there were 'alleged' scratches, so make sure you either don't rent from this location or take pictures of every single little scratch cuz they might try to charge you for them.
I have always advocated for uhaul as almost all my experiences have been positive however they just lost a good paying customer here and I hope that they stop scamming people here.
I have returned many vans clean and well cared for and essentially in the same condition the one I just returned was in but was fined because it was allegedly 'dirty'. Do yourself a favor and do not rent here.
