I was locked out of my unit though my bill was up to date and I spoke to a desk clerk who assured me that I would have access. I didn’t think anything of figured it was some sort of mistake. I had my things moved out after 3 years and I have never felt so violated in my life I have thousands of dollars worth of property that is missing.
My belongings have obviously been picked through; I purchased 10 extra large boxes from U-Haul I took one with me and stored the rest four boxes; 2 televisions; countless books; records and personal items are just gone.
She asked my brother if he would be turning in the keys for the lock I paid for WHY so someone else can have their property ransacked and stolen? Didn’t I pay for the lock? Isn’t it mine? Why do you want the key Amy? Why?
I have rented from U-Haul twice in my life and both times I had theft issues once it became apparent that I lived out of town and didn’t do monthly checks.
Here is my advice take a picture of your unit

EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU ACCESS IT.

Barrel locks can be picked and purchasing a lock pick online can be done for under $30 dollars and YouTube has how to instructions.

Picking padlocks isn’t difficult either master locks are a joke.

PODS are much more secure and security is obviously not a part of Uhauls mission.

They only keep security footage for 30 days; the know what they can get away with and they know that you’re probably not going to notice that anything is missing until you go to look for it.

Just to prove that this location has shady dealings; I went to location at night and because of some very odd power surge the elevator and the alarm stopped working while I was upstairs; there is no sort of visible fire escape map so it took me a while to find an emergency exit. I walk out of an alarmed door to see two men standing outside and do you think the alarm actually went off? It didn’t at all so if that building wasn’t secure that night what makes any other night different.
I called the manager AMY that night and informed her that the elevator stopped working and informed her that the alarm didn’t go off when I walked out of a door that was labeled as having an alarm. You know what she said I’ll check it out in the morning! Not I’ll have the police to check it out; no that’s strange nothing! I just smh and said well maybe the Lord knows something I don’t. This woman said bless your heart in the most condescending tone I’ve heard since adulthood the unmitigated GALL!!! I called AMY the next day and she says “well it was working fine when I got here this morning!” I called corporate not for a hand out but to find out how common theft is 3 times the CSR that use to work IN THIS EXACT STORE said ma’am I don’t have a doubt in my mind that you’re telling the truth and you dear reader shouldn’t doubt me either. I said all that to say this:

Go with PODS for your moving and storage needs this company is shady as hell.
