U-Pack container showed up and nearly all of our belongings are ruined. Two new beds, two TVs, couches, clothes, ski gear, etc. water somehow came up through the floor of the trailer then sat in storage for 2 months and grew mold throughout the unit. I’m guessing well over $10,000. I was told that I needed to submit a claim and U-Pack would review and possibly reimburse $.10 per pound of damaged goods meaning they would give us around $20 for completely ruining a $3,200 mattress. I am getting lawyers involved to see what they may be able to do about this. DO NOT USE U-PACK! The stress, time and money this has caused is significant. Now we will have to hire a junk disposal company to come pick up all of our ruined stuff which will be costly too. Again, DO NOT USE U-PACK!!!!
I gave a four star only because the moving truck we received ended up having a leak, and after some rain we found out that the stuff we had in the moving truck had some water on it. Luckily, there was no damage to our items. After calling to complain about it, the representative, was able to give us an additional discount. Other than that issue, everything was very simple with scheduling pick ups for the moves. Overall the delivery time was quick, we came from Las Vegas to Indiana.
Moving is never going to be fun, but U-Pack made it as low-stress and straightforward as I could hope. Booking was fast and easy with no hidden surprises at checkout or later. Drop-off, pick-up, and delivery went as scheduled. (Actually, delivery was available even sooner than expected, which was a happy surprise.) The pod looked smaller than I'd imagined it would be, but it fit more than I expected. We moved a heap of stuff, including a bunch of odd-sized things, and we didn't fill it even halfway. Everything stayed clean and dry, and it was easy to secure things. Nothing shifted across the 2400 mile trip. U-Pack for the win.
I hate ‘hidden fees’, just give me the bottom line…I hate telling me one thing and doing another, just do what you say you’re going to do. U-Pack delivered…quoted me a price for 16’ feet of space, and that it was $160/foot beyond that.
I got a couple of local guys to pack, a couple of local guys to unload when I got there. U-Pack had the van at my house the day they said they would, they picked it up within 24 hrs of me saying it was done, told me 5-7 days to get there and it got there in maybe 5, delivered it and when I got it unpacked I got online to tell them I was done, they had it picked up the next afternoon.
I had 2 quotes from traditional movers: $16K and $12K…U-Pack cost me $4250. I paid 2 guys $450 to load and $475 to unload, and tipped them well. All told it was around $5600. I figured the roughly $1400 spent on hiring guys to load was less than the cost of a hernia repair or surgery for a disk herniation.
I will say this…make SURE the guys who load know what they are doing, stuff shifts (and U-Pack warned me about this). We had some (not a lot) of damage, but this was entirely due to the way it was loaded and not U-Packs fault at all. Seems intuitive but put heavy stuff on the bottom, lighter stuff on top, and if you stack totes/boxes 8 feet high you have to strap it in place…simple.
100% recommend them. They will do for traditional movers what UBER/LYFT did to cab drivers.
